My mate has an 18mth CKC, she got her at Easter. The dog had no up to date vaccinations because her previous owner said she had a near death reaction to her needles at 8 wks old. After talking to the vet they decided to go ahead and try again as the risk is far less than her catching parvo. When she went on Wednesday our usual vet wasn't there and she had a locum. The vet only gave Cindy the 2nd lot of needles not the first lot. She doesnt have to go back for any more (usually in 3 wks) only for her booster next year?? Is Cindy fully covered with only receiving the 2nd lot of needles, and if so why do puppies etc have to have 2 lots?? hope this makes sense and someone can shed some light! oh the vet was foreign and not makin much sense! She also said give her her booster next year then not to bother again??

Puppies are given two doses to optimise cover allowing for maternal antibodies.  The protocols recommend dogs are boostered regularly throughout their lives.  More information can be found on the Intervet site but if I was your friend I would go back and discuss it with the regular vet for reassurance.

Oh i should of also said that her other KCS also just homed by her, had missed his booster as well but the vet gave him both lots of needles?? he is 18 mths old and her other dog is a bit older (not quite sure 2ish)??

The vaccine manufacturers state that if an animal is presented for boostering more than 3 months overdue, the full course needs to be given. In the huge majority of animals this will be of little significance (other than to the owner's pocket!) but individuals who have had unusual reactions are treated as special cases.
