In the US 'going for a whiz (or whizz)' means going for a piddle!

Not really something I'd want to call across a park! Out of those options I'd definitely go for Tanner. It was quite a popular name in pre-decimal days. :)
Let's face it, drugs, gangs etc, take ordianary words and use them across the board, I would not be worried about a words double meaning if you like it, as the words will no doubt change and go out of fashion anyway. Most of us don't have a clue about double meanings or even meanings of our own names in other cultures so go with a name if you like it. Chase is a good name.
As for your other choices the only one I would go with is Whiz and Tanner, as the others don't even sound like dog names.

I know of someone

with a dog called Reefa, which again, is drugs connected.
What about Spliff?

I know an Akita called Spliff.
a good friend of mine is called Reefa and she is from the USA

My recently accquired bitch is called Chase[I have been told it's a male name, who cares],her breeder said she had always wanted a dog called Chase,as she was over 5 months old when I got her I left it, going to a new home was confusing enough without changing her name too.
Rhona

i breed my chase i just love his name, his dad name was rush,so i should call the new one whiz,
andrew not shaw on that one, we got to deside soon so the breeder of the puppy can start calling bye his name before he come to the uk next year.

Have you asked the breeder what the Swedish translations are for the names you are considering? That might put an interesting spin on the name :D

LOL Admin, I don't think any of those pet names conosdered (crank, meth, dope, tanner etc) actually HAVE translations into Swedish. :) There are quite a few words that cannot be translated to or from Swedish and English -hence we even use Swedish words in the English language (and vice versa) eg. smörgåsbord and ombudsman for instance. And it gets even more complicated when slang is used. Having said that, anybody who wants any Swedish words translated feel free to ask any time as I'm happy to help out.

Teri - I like Whizz - knew of a Whizzit! once (a dog that is!)

It reminds me of 'Whizzer' in the first live-action 101 dalmatians film; named because he made puddles everywhere. (Definitely a joke aimed at the American audience!)

We have a friend who has dogs named Juice and Reefer - the first actually belonged to drug dealers before she was rehomed to our friend :D :D

Well call me an old grump :o but I would not be inclined to choose any name associated with the wretched world of drugs abuse.

it my sense of humour,to find the kennel name first then find a pet name that as a meaning to the reg name
like
my apache tears pet name is teyha which is an apacha name
red dragon pet name chase which is in another post the reson of his name
ravenhall easyer rider name was harley, bikes.
limted edition name blue {for the blue print}
my swd name is viva la diva but i can but her pet down on here beacuse one will be up set or have a go, her kennel names sing lady.

I think a lot of us try to tie in the kennel name and pet name. It is the subject matter that I find odd.

but then i dont like human names for my dogs, but ats another issues

I think there are a few more alternatives than human names :) I'm all for witty names just don't think this is a very nice subject no different really to looking for inspiration in domestic violence, alcoholism or child abuse

Drug abuse ruins peoples lives just as thoroughly. Still, it's your dog.

my names are alternative to human names.but i didnt say any thing about drug abuse, we were talking about words onlys and their meaning,
chase could have alot of other meaning than a slang word for a drug,
and for his pedigree name red dragon the puppys were all liver in colour which i went down the route of red,it was just that i was talking to my son about the dogs name that say did you know what the two name s mean together, the new pup name is a well know computer game about cars but when i type it into a seach engine it give me slang word for the drug.
and if you look at the other words on the other post they to have other meaning not just meaning to drugs.
it like people saying sorry it only a word and when you say it to someone some time you mean it what the word mean.but some time some you state the word with out any feeling and not worry about the meaning of the word.
it only a word..

There is no doubt you will get away with it for a lot of people as many will not spot the connection and indeed you could always say it has another meaning but I just don't understand why you would want to. With the possible connotations of the kennel name these are all the words I would be specifically avoiding.

I like Whiz but have to admit I wouldn't call any of my dogs after something to do with drugs. Have to say that Whiz does remind me of what the meaning is in America :d

see there other meaning to a word, not just one meaning

whiz a mean to make the buzzing sound of something moving swiftly though the air or to speed by.
chase to follow quickly so as to catch or to run after.
rush to move swiftly or impertuously.
chase and rush are my dogs name and the new one may be whiz so the meaning of they name are above not just a slang word for drug,if you see there a link to their names.
i better look up rush to see if there a slang word for his name .but that be ok.he not with us any more. he was call rush beacuse of his colour liver was so deep brown it was the colour of a bull rush, another meaning of a word.

god just look even blue name a slag word as well as rush,on the over subject.

I always thought Whizz to be associated with whizzing around fast!

Isabel...you a grump girl!!! But I'm with you on that one!! I HATE the drug culture of today :P

Hi I saw a site on the internet for dog names /sweden giving also the translation or meaning .I am picking my new cocker up from Sweden on Friday , I am very excited , the breeder asked for his new pet name so that she could get him used to it ,he was called Melker , meaning King . I have called him Phoenix .There are so many names on the internet which can give you ideas .

i love the name phoenix

I am a bit strange i supose, I like an X in the name of my newest dogs . I have Maximus , Max for short ,Dixiechick -Dixie , and now Phoenix ,next I think it could be Dexter/Baxter or Matrix .

whizz sounds good to me......

jmho i would not immediately link whizz with any drug connotations, to me its far more linked to the rush, chase line of moving fast!!

Well, crank can mean someone who complains or winding something up is cranking. Dope can mean dumb or stupid and whiz can be pee or someone who is really smart can be called a whiz. And isn't Chase some kind of a short form or nickname for Charles? My own vocabulary just grew as I did not know those words had drug connotations, except for dope and meth.
