my girl is due to whelp in 9 to 12 days, but i have noticed that the last couple of days she has milk coming through already, last time she had pups it didnt come through til a day or two before the pups arrived, is it normal for milk to come in this early or could something be wrong, this isnt our first litter but i still get so worried as the whelping date approaches anything out of the ordinary and i start to panic. she has become very lazy over last few days too all she is doing is sleeping, i have seperated her from our other dogs as she is getting quite snappy with them and she has her whelping box all set up ready although she not particualrly bothering with it yet, she has a sniff around it maybe a lay down for half hour but then prefers to come and sleep next to me or OH.
any advice is greatly appreciated
thanks kwackerZ9

You do realise of course she could just as easily whelp in two or 3 days so have the milk about the same time as before.

I have never taken any notice of when the milk comes in other than make sure the pups are getting some.

If she isn't showing signs of mastitis then I wouldn't worry, but would be thinking she might whelp early.

she not showing any signs of mastitis but she is showing signs that she may whelp earlier than we thought she spent alot of today in her whelping box and is being very clingy, will the pups be ok if she does whelp this early on as i have read that pups born too early are unlikely to survive, she is getting very protective of my OH too which is totally out of character for her we cant even have a cuddle infront of her without her grumbling and pushing me out of the way

So you decided to breed her again already then, i thought you said her last litter was 2 years ago, was it another bitch who had a litter last october then?

We didnt actually decide to breed her again yet daisys ,  she made that decision for us by getting through 2 doors while we were in bed  her next mating wasnt planned until next spring, but she managed to somehow come into season nearly 3 months early , yes i did consider at great lengths about having the injection to stop the pregnancy with the fact that her last litter are not yet 12 months old but after talking things through at great lengths with our vet and the kennel club and the fact that she has had a season in between her last litter and this one we were advised to let her go ahead and have the pups and have her spayed as soon as possible afterwards ( she was going to be spayed after next litter anyway) it was a genuine accident as we are  so careful about keeping them apart when she is in season :(. we are still dumbfounded as to the fact that she managed to open 2 doors, not an ideal situation i know but we are taking measures to make sure this never happens again :(  this has never happened to us before and i definately do not intend on it happening again
i would also like to say that i dont ever remember saying that her last litter was 2 years ago
i did have another bitch that had a litter 2 years ago but sadly she passed away in january :(
