Topic Dog Boards / Health / Do i need to be concerned?

Hiya

I have a TT pup who is nearly 16 weeks old.  For the second time this week he has vomited...not real sick but more like a bile (greeny/yellowy froth) He has also gone off his food a little over the last few days and seems to want to pick throughout the day rather than just eat a full meal.  He is still drinking plenty of water and seems to be fine in himself.....any suggestions?...He is my first dog so i'm feeling quite worried.

Thanks
Karen

The hot weather does mess with a dogs appetite, however if you are not happy make a quick trip to the vet's to put your mind at rest.

mine will quite often do this if he has a very empty stomach (low blood sugars sort of thing!) so I tend to give him a little something before bed bonio or something like that and he is usually fine now. but if concerned I would still ring vet for advice or take him in.

My dog also does this very occasionally when he has a particularly empty stomach - it's not "proper" sick, just this foamy sort of biley stuff. Again, a bonio seems to do the trick as does half a ginger biscuit first thing in the morning.

The hot weather isn't helping as far as appetites are concerned and with the exception of some JWB to graze at, Nips is only wanting one hearty meal a day at the moment which he has at about 6pm.  He's not a little pup so that's not something that bothers me but if your pup is losing weight or has an upset stomach as well I'd be inclined to check him out with the vet.

Hi Karen,

empty tums are more likely to cause sickness (bile) than full ones so it may be your boy is off his food only due to this awful heat but this is a side affect for him.  If he wont take a proper meal try giving him something extra tastey but relatively bland such as cooked chicken (without any skin) or poached white fish.

OTOH with such a young pup I'd be inclined to have him checked over by your vet should it happen again - youngsters and elderly dogs can go down hill much more quickly especially in these conditions.

best wishes, Teri

Thanks to everyone for replying

As has been mentioned....he does eat better late on at the moment so maybe it is the heat.  I have found that if i grate a little cheese over the top, he seems to find his appetite again but i dont want to do this all the time in case he expects it all the time.

He is due to go the vets early next week anyway for his worming tablet/frontline so i may mention it to them.  He is deffo growing and puting weight on and once the garden is shaded he finds loads of enery and is like a loon and also has a good run when i take him out later this evening.

Thanks again
Karen

Hi Karen,

hopefully he'll perk up when (if  ) the weather cools off a bit :)

Re his running around a lot and being exercised in the evening, at his age be careful that he's not overdoing things as pups rarely know their limitations and don't really need much in the way of formal walks/exercise - more just going out and about to socialise  :)

best wishes, Teri
