Kennel Club Press Release:-

ADVICE FOR DOG OWNERS ATTENDING SHOWS IN HOT WEATHER

Your dog is vulnerable and at risk during extreme hot weather, such as we are currently experiencing, and the Kennel Club offers the following guidance to help guide you through the do's and don'ts, with particular reference to attending shows.

*  When travelling to a show please take a moment to consider whether the route to the show is for instance,     on a busy holiday route, and leave earlier if it is, so as to avoid increased time in traffic jams.

*  If your car is not air-conditioned seriously consider whether travelling to the show is a good idea at all.

*  The car should be as fully ventilated as possible, and plenty of stops should be taken, with lots of water available to drink (for both dog and owner!).

*  Ensure your dog is not sitting in full sunlight. There should be plenty of free flowing air around the dog.

*  When at the show, never leave your dog in the car.

*  Keep the dog in the shade - take your own shade to guarantee you will be able to provide this, a large umbrella for instance, and always have plenty of water available to drink so the dog stays well hydrated.

*  Avoid your dog taking part in unnecessary exertion, or from standing in exposed sunlight for extended lengths of time.
More
Remember, if you feel hot your dog is very likely to feel much hotter and dehydrated, and this could lead to dire results. Please look after your dog's welfare.

Common sense really, but I suppose some people never learn :(

That sooooo reasuring NOT what about the judges that take so much time to decide that your dog is near heat stroke!

Perhaps they need better guide lines to judges than to exhibitors! not once in this heat as our breed judges requested wet weather tents! i for one am giving the whole of july a miss next year due to inconsiderate judges.

we were moved into the wet weather tents at leeds to keep out of the sun, think it was at the judges insistance.

All good advise but I feel they could have gone a step further and suggest that if comfort and safety look at all risky don't go to the show it's not worth it not to mention if your dog faints take it home
