Just had a renewal letter and they've put the policy up by..........wait for it................100%
AND reduced some of the benefits

I rang them and they said the reduced benefits is wrong and they'll send us a new schedule that will be same as the original but the renewal price is correct...their excuse, they said they had an increase from AXA

I am so mad, surely this cant be right. When we took the policy they said they only put the price up by 10% when the dog is 4 and then again when the dog is 9, apart from that, policy stays the same and its for life.

Anyone had anything similar with M&S pet insurance??

Obviously they are now running like MoreThan....
I had the same with MoreThan on my oldie when she reached 6 and over lept
from £23 pound a month to £46 a month approx bar pennies

Everyone letting everyone else know what a fantastic company &
how cheap they are hasn't helped - they are probably paying out a bit more now

Perhaps a few letters to dog press/animal press such as doggy magazines they advertise in
may help..................................
Have you got the info where thye say they only put the price up by 10% etc? as perhaps a
complaint to the insurance ombudsmen is called for?

I am just waiting for the sting in the tail with my other two policies - was with Pethealthcare which
got taken over by MoreThan - and boy aren't the premiums much more expensive than they were:rolleyes:
I am not looking forward to when the other girls reach 6 yo!

Shall be on the look out for other insurance company!! Although I suspect that they are all doing this premium
increase etc. They normally claim - your vet has put their fees up, your post code, the age of your pet...
The reality - they are all greedy and out to make as much money as possible and as we all need pet insurance per se
they've got us over a barrel!

I received Shay's renewal just a few days ago and there has been no increase from last year. My other policy was renewed a couple of months ago with no change from the previous year either.

That's funny as I have just changed insurance for our import boy (age 4 stud male) to Healthy Pets and they are underwritten by AXA. it came to £112.35.

Yes I got mine this morning and it has gone up 70%. When I phoned they said it applied to policies renewable after 1st August. Haven't read the whole thing yet so didn't notice the reduced cover.

The renewal date of Shay's insurance policy is 10th August and, as stated above, his has not increased this year  Not that I'm complaining!!

Going back to an earlier thread on this, it does not make sense...there does not seem to be any consistency in how they are determining increases. Mine was around 20-25%. I could not get any logical answers when I queried it with them either :(

The renewal date of Shay's insurance policy is 10th August

My renewal date is 14th August so why the difference and why tell me the date for increases was 1st August. I think another phone call tomorrow is in order

It is very strange...I'll be interested to hear what their explanation is, if they have one that is!

Apparently the different increases is down to postcodes and what vets fees are in that area.
What they also told me today when I asked if they did a breeders insurance is that your policy is no longer valid if your bitch has more than 2 litters of puppies. As I don't breed anymore I don't know if this is standard practice.  I have recommended them to a few people who do breed and it was a friend who asked me to inquire about a breeders policy other than that the the question would not have arisen.

The answer I got from them today was that the underwriters have been reviewing policies and have 'discovered' that younger dogs are more prone to 'accidents' that older dogs and thats why they have put Richy's policy up (he's only 16 months old).....what a lot of b......

Oh, and 'we are sorry there's nothing we can do about it'

I wonder if its worth writing them a letter of complaint?
- By ShaynLola Date 26.07.06 18:37 UTC
Maybe I live in a 'cheap' postcode then  Sssh! Don't tell M&S but my vet is the most expensive in the area

I don't believe the thing about accidents in young dogs at all as my dogs are only 2&1/2 and 16 months of age so surely my premiums would be higher if this were the case?

Well, I've just insured our puppy with M&S as they came out so much cheaper than Pet Plan, who I had always used in the past, and they always paid out!  I was paying approx £16 per month for our 3 year old boy and it didn't seem to increase year on year!  However,to insure our new puppy the premium  with Pet Plan was over £20 per month (can't remember the exact cost) M&S offering slightly better cover is less than half that!

Very worrying - I guess if it increases so much next year I'll just have to reconsider!

Definitely worth writing a letter of complaint - don't forget to mention there are other M&S insurance policy users who are waiting to hear their reply!

Have you tried using the quick online quote facility on their website?  Would be interesting if that quote came out much lower than your renewal quote since it also includes age and therefore would indicate the reason they are giving you is not truthful.  Might also give you some ammo to argue with!

I am with M&S for my 2 dogs. The policy was renewed about 2 months ago. Last year when my pup was 3 months old she broke her leg. I claimed on my insurance and the pay out was over £2000. I expected the premium to have increased this year, however I was pleasantly surprised to find it hadn't and the benefits are the same.
