Have seen some internal doors on ebay that i want but the seller says they will need stripping ( and from the photo it looks like they do too ) but im not sure how much it costs.

Does anyone know the rough cost of having doors stripped?

Many thanks , Kate

It may vary from area to area but I was quoted £12-£15 per door a couple of years ago to have them acid dipped.

You could do it yourself with paint stripper, but it is messy and can work out just as expensive as having them 'dipped'.

I paid £15 per door to be acid dipped and that included collection/drop off about 3 years ago well worth it.

We had 2 dipped a few months ago (in Norfolk), both are original Victorian doors.  We paid £30 for the pair to be done.  They were back with us within a week - and look amazing!

Its best to hand strip with Nitromoors, but its messy and smelly. When you dip older doors it can play havoc with the old glues used, and can mis shape the doors. It is time consuming and messy, and expensive, but nothing beats an original Victorian (or older type) of door or furniture for that matter if you want the original look.

Another do-it-yourself method is to scrape them down with bits of broken glass.  Be careful.  Of your hands and of gouging too deeply.
Advantages:
- beautiful finish ready to stain, whatever, without sanding.
- glass corners get into inside door corners and can do two side at once.
- breaking the glass is very satisfying.
Disadvantage: - slow.
