I was wondering if there are any French Bulldog experts out there who could perhaps help me with my dilemma. My first Frenchie after 14 years of Pugs seems to eat only enough to survive. She is 14 months old  and I feed her Naturediet Lamb.According to guidelines she should be eating 1 and a quarter packs per day but I'm lucky if she eats a 1/4 (I dont  fuss over it just leave it for 15 mins and remove it ). She appears to have an allergy to a lot of meat especially poultry or beef so I have to be careful what I give her. Before I became aware of her allergy she had continual runny tummy and ear infections which have cleared on the naturediet although she does still chew her paws.My vet thinks there's nothing wrong with her  weight but I only have to see the frenchies in the show ring to realise she is comparitively underweight. My breeder has tried to help but she has never encountered the problem before - quite the opposite in fact.I was told allergy testing was very expensive but wonder if it may be worth it to perhaps get to the root of her complete lack of appetite. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I am in the process of having one of mine allergy tested.  She doesn't have tummy troubles, but gets itchy feet, yukky ears and rubs her chin.  She has been uncomfortable and I really don't want her on steroids.  My last vet had no faith in allergy testing but my new vet (I've moved) suggested trying it.  I am insured so have let them take and send off a blood sample to the lab.  I am awaiting the results.  The vet said that a serum would be made up that I will have to inject (not looking forward to that, hate needles) but I'll give it a try.  Pm me if you want to know how we get on - it may take a while though.

IME, Naturediet's feeding guidelines are VERY generous. When my dogs were fed on it, I fed them about half the amount recommended by Naturediet and found enough for them to maintain a healthy weight.

I would go for the allergy testing if you think it will help to pin down what is affecting her so that you will know what to eliminate from her diet.

Hope you get to the bottom of her problems soon.
