I know we all see dog poo that has not been cleaned up by irresponsible owners, and I usually assume it's people who walk their dogs after dark.
This morning, we were on our way to visit someone in Norton and were on a dual carriageway with footpath & grass either side. One side is backed onto by houses, the other mainly by a school grounds.
This dual carriageway is always fairly busy, and today the traffic was fairly slow moving as we neared the roundabout. There was a man walking a dalmation, and it stopped to do what dogs do ......I saw that he had no bag in his hand nor was he fishing in his pocket for one ...I watched in the wing mirror as we moved on, and sure enough, he just moved off, carried on walking his dog down the pavement and left the offending mess on the grass edge near the school playing field fence. The fact that many car occupants could see this, let alone a few pedestrians did not seem to phase him at all. He's obviously used to doing that.
This was a middle-aged plus, well dressed man, and we were disgusted by his blatant disregard for the area he lives in.
I hope he's someone who reads this forum and that he feels ashamed.

I often see owners leaving their dogs poop behind,or "pretending" to not see their dogs in the act

It makes me really angry because i always seem to be stepping in dog sh*t,and I for one, have had enough!

The other day i saw a huge mastiff leaving a pile on the far side of the track from me,the owner was standing 10 feet away from him, and it was clear he had no intention of picking up.I stood there glaring at the owner,,but he refused to make eye contact with me,LOL!
I was thinking, from now on i will carry extra poo bags out on walks with me and when i see an owner not pick up,i will politely call to them and offer one of my poop bags ;) I dont care if i embarrass them or not,it is our duty of care as dog owners to pick up after them,or else soon there wont be any places left for us to walk our dogs as they will be banned because of the messes they leave behind :(
i got to the point of being fed up with owners not picking up as well, and i am now well known where i live for being the one that shouts across the field if they are not picking it up DO YOU NEED A BAG TO PICK THAT UP, and wave a bag at them, but you have to be brave, i have been verbally abused spat at, but i don't care, the time i got really annoyed a gentleman walked past my door everyday and everyday the dog messed outside my gate either right outside my gate or just to one side or the other, the neighbours complained to him and asked him to pick it up etc etc, he would just walk by and ignore them, so i went out into the garden the time he was comming by and when his dog did it , i said can you pick that up please i had at the time very small children in the house and they where getting it on their shoes etc, he just kept walking in my hand he must of wondered what i was doing with a very small garden trowel i picked the poo up on the trowel and launced it at him, it hit him square in the back of the head and he was fuming, he called me all the names under the sun, by this time my neighbours where out and laughing because they had seen what i had done, i just said it belongs to your dog, you take it home with you, and from that day on he still walked down our street but hurried past my gate, i don't think he ever did pick up his dogs poo, and i really did not mean to hit him on the back of the head with it as i am a terrible shot, just go lucky i suppose.

judgedread...........I actually think you are a wonderful shot ;) :D

I smile sweetly and rush over with a poo bag, saying 'Oh I see you have run out of them'

I remember reading that if the speed limit is 40 or above, legally you don't have to pick up, so he might be been 'legally' within his rights, although not morally

What really bugs me, is that those are the people responsible for the 'no dogs' signs that spring up everywhere, and they probably ignore them as well!

Click2treat, I've never heard that, and that would I mean wouldn't have to pick up my dogs poo on there walks as our road is 40mph speed limit, yet the path is used everymorning and afternoon by school kids (secondry school round the corner)
We were on Wells beach yesterday when a lady (in a swimming costume, no bag in hand, and no obvious place to store one!) came walking past behind us. Her little terrier stopped, pooped and she quickly bent down and sprinkled sand over it (which I think is worse than leaving it on display, as at least you can see it and avoid it). She quickly stood up, and went to move on when I shouted really loudly across the crowded beach "I have a bag you can use for your dogs mess if you've forgotten one".
She went bright red, came over, grabbed the bag, mumbled thanks, picked the poop up with everyone now watching and then try to look cool, calm and collected as she walked on.
That'll teach her.....

The kids at our school used to laugh at me and helen for having poo bags sticking out of our pockets, or if I was looking for something in my bag and they'd seen bags in there as well. 'Eew, how can you pick it up' they'd ask. Until, that is, I asked them if they would prefer we pick it up or leave it for them to walk in? Obviously its not something they see very often :(

we have a small enclosed field area near us that has poop all over and it is so annoying as I have a 3 year old who comes out walking with me most days, it is a nightmare trying to make sure he is dodging the poos! I just hate it and i think it is plain bad that they can get left behind... I often get strange looks when coming out of the field with a bag full of poop, but to me i wouldn't have it any other way! It is horrible having to clean off shoes/pushchair wheels etc after someone hasn't bothered to pick it up!!
I see all these signs everywhere about fining if not scooping the poop, but who are these people that fine? do they actually ever do it? I never see anyone patroling this area and it is £1000 a pop.
"I see all these signs everywhere about fining if not scooping the poop, but who are these people that fine? do they actually ever do it? I never see anyone patroling this area and it is £1000 a pop."I read our local council's page on environmental health/dog fouling - they say officers patrol at all sorts of hours, including night and morning. They must miss where we live ! We actually have one of those signs on the lampost outside our house ...but it never seems to deter anyone from leaving their dogs mess behind!
To me, this attitude says 'to hell with everyone else, I don't care about them, their children or dogs stepping in it, I don't care about the potential disease risks, or the poor chap who's job it is to pick it up during routine tidying'
We cannot pass it off as people that are not home owners or parents - we see all age groups guilty of this.
We used to have a local councillor who was for ever ranting (and quite rightly) about residents who do this - she made this point repeatedly in the free magazines and papers etc, and she did have an effect. Seems because everyone was so aware of these people and the way she was describing them, it must have embarrassed most into cleaning up. Sadly, times & elections change things, and no-one rants pubicly about this in our area now. The number of heaps left on residential pavements and in local public areas has become rather disgusting again.
Perhaps we should just go back to the medieval open sewer system ...let's
all join in!

Oh heck! I'm getting so cross about it all after reading all your other posts.

I can't understand how people aren't ashamed - if I am caught out (i.e. forgotten to bring bags, or not brought enough) I am mortified - last time I was in Yorkshire I'd run out of bags when Remy decided to go again (totally out of character for him to go twice, which is why i ran out) - right in the middle of the pavement. I couldn't do anything, there was no-one around to ask for a bag - so we hurried home. The next morning I got up early to walk the dogs, headed straight back to it and picked it up.
Dodging dog poo is one of my major pet peeves - I do find it annoying having to carry smelly bags around (especially when those lovely walks in the park have no dog bins in sight) but it's better than leaving it there. The worst I'll do is leave a bag at one of my "drop points" on a walk - somewhere I know I'll walk past towards the end of the walk so I can pick it up again.

In this position I have actually tied the dogs up and knocked on someones door asking for a bag. At first they look at you funny, and then you see the light bulb look as they hurry off to get one and come back all smiles.

Our council are having a "crack down" on people not picking up after their dogs just now (although I've not seen anyone yet!). About time too! I also ask people if they would like a bag!
Sarah.

What really disgusts me are people that bag their dog's poop and leave it behind in the field or along the road. Why do they do it? At least poop is biodegradable, not so the plastic bag. I don't believe that it's yobs dipping into rubbish bins or special-purpose poop bins and flinging them around. Maybe that accounts for some of the bags I see hanging from tree limbs - but I certainly not all of them or those just sitting rather undramatically on the ground.
I actually emailed our local council's environmental health dept. to ask about the man we saw with the dalmation - I got a really nice reply and he stated that if seen by a patrol officer, the man would have been fined £50 on the spot, as the fouling law here applies to all public areas and open spaces irrespective of speed limit.
The council also issues free poop bags at council office reception areas!
I'd also mentioned the dog fouling on footpaths where we live, and he said to give details of area(s) and they would be extra vigilant at such places. He mentioned that the pedestrian country lanes running through here have been their main target recently, and I must admit, we had noticed that they are very much improved with very few 'heaps' and no longer any bags of poop thrown in the hedges!

An older lady yelled at me once, "I hope you're going to pick that up!" She turned red when I told her it was kind of hard to pick up pee. I guess she was used to male dogs.

I have had that on a number of occasions, rather surprising as with the low curtsey and the tightly curled tail so the anus is rather clear to see
