Hi we went to our first championship show yesterday at Windsor and got 3rd place very pleased with our little 9 month old, as our breed is only a small breed at the moment she was shown in junior, My question is when it comes to best puppy in show does it matter if the puppy has been beaten in the puppy stakes for it to still take part?
Many thanks

Yes it does matter I'm afraid. A puppy beaten in the puppy stakes is no longer elligible for the puppy group or indeed best puppy in show, sorry. :)

PS well done on your success though. What breed?

No you got the wrong end I got third in the junior and was therefor the winning puppy bitch I then had to go up against the winning puppy dog only she had gone off mid way to attend the puppy stakes and failed so then came back to go against my little girl and the dog won. Just wasn't sure this was fair thought therefore by default We should of won best puppy?

yes you should have won best puppy, if I win a 1st in a class I always withdraw from stakes classes for that reason.

Ah well now, it is OK for the dog puppy to compete with yours for BPIB, but it really should not have gone on to compete for best puppy in show having been beaten in the puppy stakes. Was there a puppy group at Windsor? mostly there isn't at general champ shows, with some notable exceptions.

PS, oh now I'm not sure, I'll go off and check up.

There was no comp for BPIS at Windsor. Whether it was beaten in stakes makes no odds to breed competition, only Group and BIS.
I have been in the Champion stakes before the breed was in and had already been beaten, but of course still entitled and did actually win BOB, after all the breed is being judged by a different judge, but I wasn't able to go in the group.
At Open shows the Puppy stakes are often before breed judging, it doesn't mean the pups can't compete in their bred classes, just they can't go further if they go BPIB/BOB.

Sorry She's a bolognese, she is our little star. dont know what we did befor her and never considered showing befor so we realy have no idea of all the rules not even sure if we were meant to get a rosette, just pleased to get third and qualify for crufts.

Ok, I was right. It's OK for the dog puppy to compete with yours for BPIB, but not to then go forward to the puppy group.

Ok its all confusing just spoke to breeder and she's unsure too, the sitiuation went puppy dog wins first in junior then whilst they were judging bitches the dog puppy went off to puppy stakes, mine then comes third in junior but then becomes in theory the winning puppy bitch as there were no puppy classes for either sex, so then after the dog returns from not winning the stakes it then goes against my girl for best puppy in breed and wins is this fair as it was in theory beaten.

The dog puppy hadn't been beaten by another puppy in any of the breed classes, had it?

No, there was only the junior dog and junior bitch class available so we had both entered against far more experienced dogs, So i suppose if it was unbeaten in breed it was ok even though it was a beaten puppy and then went on to get reserve best in breed?

Yes, as I understand it the results of stakes classes have no bearing on breed classes.

I didnt realise that nursery, I thought once a puppy was beaten it couldnt compete for BPIB.
learn something new everyday :D

Oh sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but third in Junior when there are no CCs available doesn't qualify you for Crufts. :(
Sorry Sorry Sorry.

Sorry but this is the text I read earlier is this right?

That means if the breed never has challenge certificates offered. Do Bolognese have CC's at some shows ? If they do then unfortunately no you haven't qualified, if they don't then yes you have

It does in Non CC breeds, I didn't think that breed had CC's yet?

She did so well, she'd been really ill lately with a bad tummy and a skin infection on anti biotics for over a week. We were so worried, my other half stayed up all night with her worried she wouldn't make it and didn't want me to find her, if something went wrong! and she wasn't great on the bench, so soon after the vet visit's it upset her a bit, she was an absolute diamond. :-)
