Topic Dog Boards / Showing / Which Class Problem
- By susie [gb] Date 01.07.06 11:51 UTC
Hi, can anyone help - I wanted to enter a local agricultural show which has an open dog show.  However, there is only one class available for my breed of dog which is an 'open' class.  A lot of the breed classes have only post grad or open but for my breed there is only one possible class.  I wouldn't enter her in open normally, but does everybody just enter from puppy up into the same class in this situation?  Hope my rambled message makes sense.

Hi Susie
If you want to go to the show, you don't have much choice really.  You can't enter AVNSC as you have a breed class and you can only enter the variety classes if you have entered and exhibited (I think) in the breed classes.  Have a good time if you go, I really enjoy agricultural shows.

Thanks for the advice - still not sure what to do though!  Maybe just entering the AV gundog yearling class would be our best option.

You have to enter the single breed class if your dog is not a puppy.

If your dog is a puppy you can enter Any Variety puppy classes(including AV group puppy classes) but not the Not Separately Classified puppy classes as the breed is separately classified & don't have to enter the breed class

Hope that makes sense

At what age are they considered to no longer be a puppy please

hi moonmaiden
there is an AV gundog yearling class (separate from AV gundog NSC) so I'd be OK with that wouldn't I - even though there is one class for my breed.

You have to enter a breed class if there is one unless your dog is a puppy under 12 months a champion or a Veteran.

You can enter the AV gundog yearling class in addition to the Open breed class.

Hi Susie, in the past when I've been in your position, I have entered the Open class with a puppy, of course there is only a  small chance of winning, but the highest placed puppy would be declared Best Puppy in Breed. So that's worth a go isn't it. :)

Hi,
We had the same problem recently at an agricultural show so we enterered our pup of 7 months in the open class and surprisingly she won it (beating her mum as well!) - so you never know.   But, there was also an AV puppy class which another beagle pup entered and won that, therefore because this was also a puppy with no breed class for pups she was also entitled to go into the puppy group.

Hope this helps - or maybe confuses you all the more?!

Thanks to everybody that replied.  Much appreciated.  Well...  I've filled in and posted my entry form for our breed class (open) AV yearling and a Scottish Breeds Class too for fun.  Thanks again, I've enjoyed reading the replies.
