Topic Dog Boards / General / Northern Breeds Coping in Hot weather
- By HuskyGal Date 01.07.06 11:29 UTC
On returning from the shops, I drove past a Malamute that was walking out with a large wet towel draped over him...... which prompted me to thinking Im still amazed at how many owners dont seem to grasp the principle of Insulation in Nordic/Northern Breeds coats.
By doing this theyre compromising the action of air circulating in the coat leaving the dog unable to regulate body temp as the insulation property of the coat is hampered.
I have a great article here which I hope will be of use to Novice owners or people searching for info or concerned about their breeds ability to 'cope' on Hot days. :)

Same as those who thin it kinder to shave their double coated dogs.

Many years ago a 'gentleman of the road' who used to travel from farm to farm doing work alway wore a greatcoat no matter the weather and if asked about it he would reply "what keeps the cold out keeps the heat out".  One can only assume this applies to our dogs!
