Lol :D
My OH was away on business when Storm had his coat blow in March the first thing he said when he saw Storm on his return was "Blimey 'Denali' where'd you go??" lol :D
Dont forget the breed standard ( be it AKC,canadian,Uk) makes mention that the absence of the undercoat
during the shedding season is normal.
Is it the initial patchiness that makes you say >they look awful< ?
It is only for around 3 weeks during the Blow. The new coat is lovely and plush afterwards.
Of course you'll be using the usual Rakes/Slickers for helping to get out the dead coat..but I find that also using a rubber curry comb (its called a comb but looks like a brush,if that makes sense..usu used on horses) But I find using the rubber curry comb has a good stimulating/massage affect and stimulates good coat growth & health.
Supplements can help, omega3 fatty acids (I use Linseed oil) Fish oils.....But and its personal preference here, I dont use these at this time of year as there is some evidence to suggest they can add to overheating problems in Sibes in this hot weather. (well Im down south and Dog is in paddling pool as I speak!) Storms coat Blow was Feb/march so I supplemented then I wouldnt in summer months. Plus he gets Raw fish in his diet so no need.
HTH :)
