I could do with a bit of advice please ..... my dog is rather prone to getting rather red, inflamed ears - I hesitate to say she has a 'problem', but I do notice that after she's been in the rain or 'paddling' rather too enthusiastically her ears tend to look very red and sore for a couple of days and she scratches; after which, they settle back to a normal colour. I have taken her to the vet in the past and I've been given drops to put in, but she is a complete nightmare and to be honest, I'm not sure much of it does the job. Is this something that could be diet related, or are some dogs just more prone than others?? She's a floppy eared english setter, by the way. Short of ensuring that her ears don't get too gunky, what would you advise?? I feed her a raw diet. Various Landywood mixes, raw meaty bones, occasional kidney or heart, a few veggies, garlic, keepers mix and a drop of cod liver oil. If you think she might need a regular ear clean, is there a product which is more effective over another. I am a bit hesitant to go interfering too much with the ear though.  What do you think?  Thanks, Karen

I would take her back to the vet, just for some tests, make sure there is nothing nasty in there. If not, then i used Leo ear cleaner on one of mine that suffered with 'gungy' ears, did it once a week. keeping them clean helped a lot. You also need to look out for things like grass seed, and tiny bits of thistle, nettles etc getting in the ear when they play.

I would generally tend to use THORNIT on a weekly basis, certainly helps with the Newfie ears and keeps them trouble free, all the best, Dawn
