Topic Dog Boards / General / my baby has been neutered today
- By luvhandles Date 28.06.06 13:06 UTC
I have been very unsure about whether or not to neuter Harvey but over the past few weeks we have had issues that swayed me towards having him done and so today was the day. He's now home and fast asleep in his crate but not liking the buster collar which I have been told to leave on for 10 days :-( I hope that what I have put him through helps him settle down a little. He has also had his hernia repaired which the vet said was quite big.

He'll be fine by tomorrow I'm sure. My boys have both been done. They were very stiff and sore that night, walking around normally the next day and running in the field the second day after. I didn't bother with a buster collar? I took a week off work when each boy was done to watch them and stop them licking and that worked fine :)  It's such a little op for boys but of course yours having his hernia fixed may make it more like a bitch spay then which takes a lot longer to heal the muscles. What about leaving the collar off while you're with hima dn just putting it on when you go out or go to bed?

Don't worry Luvhandles he will be fine.  We had Flynn our cav done last Wednesday and he was a little sleepy that night, a little sore on the Thursday and more or less back to his normal self by the Friday.  He only wore his collar for 2 days but his stitches were internal.

Today was his first day of walking off the lead and he had a whale of a time with all his friends.

Good luck

He does seem quite sleepy and sore but I suppose thats only to be expected. I took him outdoors before but he stood trembling and wouldn't wee, he hasn't eaten or drank yet either - should I try and get him to or leave him to rest?

I would just leave him if I were you.  Flynn didn't wee the first night he was home and waited till late the following day.  I think he was so frightened it was going to hurt.  It took him about 45 minutes of circling to work up the courage to do his first poo and then he was fine
