Hi all

Have a slight query....is it common for a bitch to have a season every 3mths....have noticed my 22mth old gsd bitch has been coming into season this often..i have experience with GSD dogs but this is my first girl, so this is all new to me...any advice would be much appreciated.

Hi, I would say it is abnormal, it is generally more a case of between six and nine months...so further apart rather than closer together. Are they definate seasons?? If they are I would sugest a visit to the Vet, she may have a hormonal problem that needs investigating. Hope this help, but I'm sure there will be other suggestion too. All the best, Dawn

my sister had a gsd bitch who had seasons every 4 months, she was taken to the vet there was nothing wrong with her she is now 4 1/2 and still comes in to season every 4 months.

My friends GSD bitch also had seasons every 3 months. She ended up having her spayed as the dog was so miserable during her seasons. She would just get back to normal and then her season would start again:rolleyes:

How are you counting.  You should be counting from the first day of one season to the first day of the next.  If that makes four months then this would be within normal parameters (count weeks not calender months).  According to the book of the bitch GSD bitches quite commonly have 4 month inter season intervals.  any less than that would point to the bitch actually no ovulating or cystic ovaries.

Both of my Malamute bitches come into season every 4 months or so ....it is a pain
