Topic Other Boards / Foo / Conveyancing - anyone used Hammonds Direct?

Were all ready to move, we have signed our contracts and are just waiting for our buyers solicitor. They are using Hammonds Direct and all paperwork is sent out to sign by post. Our purchaser phoned tonight to tell us that he has spoke with his solicitor today and they are sending the paperwork out for him to sign on Monday which he should receive on Tuesday then he needs to sign and send back straight away as we hope to complete on Friday 30th. The estate agent has told me that once Hammonds has the signed paperwork back from our buyer, the exchange of contracts can take place over the phone as solicitors are commisioned under oath they are allowed to do this and then forward the paperwork afterwards - is this right?? We are desperate to complete in June otherwise it means obtaining another redemption figure from our lender which will take another week and our sellers are getting very impatient - does it seem possible?
