When ours was around 10 weeks old, I got a 5mt Flexilead and we played games in the garden with her using small Minijacks treats. We rolled a ball, ran her up the garden (my husband running in front), went round in circles etc. Each time she moved a few yards or chased the ball or person, she got a little treat. At first, she'd refused to budge, but after a day, began to get used to it.
The next task was to get her to go through the front gate, which I eventually managed after two days of extending the lead fully and kneeling/hiding around the gatepost/wall with treats. Then I carried her to the corner and put her down - eventually she realised the only way to get back inside was to walk those few yards. Next day, I took her to the corner and again hid around the wall - she got curious as to where I'd gone after a while and crept round to me. A young girl walking up the footpath stopped to pat her and chat a little and when she went, I just said 'come on then' and to my suprise, she did! after about 20yds, I turned round and took her back home. (My husband said no way would he have got up to such antics in the street :))
After that, she gradually got so that she would walk fine. She was very frightened of people, bicycles, cars - even parked ones after some nit reversed half on the pavement towards us! I used to just let her stop and stare at things until she was reassured and would happily walk on.
She's still learning to behave and getting more confident with the sights and sounds, but I have noticed that she sometimes acts up more when we both take her for a walk, rather than just one of us.
