I'm thinking about having a new puppy, a miniature long Dachshund. However, I have never had such a tiny puppy before and was wondering how you go about introducing one. I have 2 mini Poodles and a Mini Long Dachshund already, but most of my puppies have been either older or quite chunky and robust not tiny like a baby Dachshund so any tips would be greatly recieved.

What sex are the dogs you already have and what sex the one you are getting?

I got a 6 month old mini long bitch 3 weeks ago, my male mini long accepted her with no problem at all but my Mum's spayed mini long who lives round the corner has taken an instant dislike to her and attacks at every opportunity if we don't concentrate and keep an eye on them all.

When I got my male, nearly 2 yrs ago my Mum's dog thought he was another new toy and fell in love with him straight away, she hadn't been spayed at that point so I don't know whether that is what is the difference or whether it's because  the pup is female too.

I am working with my breeders advice to get the two girls round at my house and if there is a problem pick up the older dog,I'd been picking up the pup out of harms way. She also said to leave all the dogs on the ground so no one is elevated to a higher level. I had all the dogs together for 31/2 hrs on Tues. and there was only one incident which stopped before it got going.

Then Mum arrived and picked up the pup and was cuddling her for about 1/2 hr and shouting if her dog went anywhere near her. So I am better working out the problem without Mum taking part.

I hope this helps. My two are inseperable, asleep at the present in the same bed.

The poodles are both girls and very accepting. Percy is petrified of anything new so would take a little time to get used to it but he settles down in the end.
