Now that I'm not working I'd thought I'd give my old recipes a chance. I can't find the one for tablet. Can anyone help?

Lots of sugar bit of water if I remember rightly.
Here you
go. Forget the all important condensed milk :)

I can feel my teeth rotting as we speak, Linda! I hope a wee package will be winging it's way through the post?

So just tell everyone you were making toffee :)
Thanks for the link :D I'm going to try some fudge and some treacle toffee too, but I think I might need to try it out a few times first ;)
Christine, if it works out I'll let you test it :) If I haven't eaten it all first

Oh I love that stuff....thorntons do a really good one, I make myself feel sick with it every time I get my hands on some, a real weakness of mine. And yes my teeth are terrible!
Call me stupid if you like, but I had never heard of 'tablet' until looking a this thread!! :) Is there anyone else out there who had never heard of it ?

It's really just a Scottish thing. Another of their healthy tastes ;) I don't know if it is much different to the English Fudge?

no, nor me :)
try and act suprised Isabel ;)

Tablet is like Fudge flavoured Kendal mint cake........ (does make sense???) I mean consistency wise!
The Brown Kendal mint cake not the white one.
This is the one my cousins wife uses (slightly different)
Scottish tablet ingredients
2 lb granulated sugar
1 large tin of condensed milk
1 cup of milk
And a lil drop of vanilla essence
Instructions
1. Put sugar , condensed milk + milk into pot + bring to boil
2. Keep boiling for 20 mins constantly stirring
3. Take from heat and stir in vanilla essence
4. Stir until thickens
She makes a fantastic tiffin too.

Thanks Karen. This one sounds more like it :D I remember using a lot of sugar, and a tin of condensed milk, not a small amount. ;)
LindyLou, I am holding you personally responsible for the fact that I've been into Thorntons and bought a pack of their tablet and am now busy eating it!! :D :D Mmmmmmmmmmmm

Do Thornton's do tablet? Or is that the inferior English fudge you are Mmmmmmmmming over? ;)
It is definitely tablet Isabel - they actually call it butter tablet. They also sell the usual soft squashy fudge as well - nothing like as yummy I agree!

I shall be dropping in to get some for Hubby tomorrow :) although I suppose we should all be making our own ;)
Daren't make my own Isabel - I would eat pounds of it instead of just a small packet! :D

My Mum is from Scotland and I enjoyed loads of this stuff when I was younger - very yummy! :D Much nicer than ordinary fudge IMO. Definitely not good for teeth or figure though - once you start eating it, you can't stop!

:)

Me
I haven't made any yet. Getting ready to go to Blackpool ;) Might find an hour or so soon, when I find I can't sleep 'cos I have to be up at 1.30-ish :D
I've always believed that a little of what you fancy does you good :) So don't blame me if you keep eating :D Too much can seriously enlarge your waist line

Linda,
Are you going to Blackpool via Southend? 1.30am? Are you cycling? ;)

just luv tablet its nothing like fudge its yummier :d and crumbles as you eat it . fancy some now :P
Well you can't have any of mine - all gone now! :D :D
No idea what way we went (was trying to sleep in the back of the car ;) ) Cycling? Me? I don't think so :) Waste of time at the show, both dogs got chucked :(
Why is it that when you decide to do something (like make tablet ;) ) someone has to disturb you? Don't know where I went wrong, but it didn't work out right. Think I'll take the phone off the hook, put a sign on the door and try again ;)
