Has anyone used or can give me advice about T.E.N.S machines. My grown up daughter has neck and shoulder pain she saw the doctor who sent her to see a physio - she got exercises to do to strengthen her muscles, but is still having problems. I was wondering if anyone has used a T.E.N.S machine was it any good and are there different types? Any help will be much appreciated.
Thanks Joany

I have tried one and it was not good at all :) It is worth trying though as different horses for different courses ;)
Does she know why she has the pain ? Has she had whiplash injuries by any chance ?

Thanks Lis, actually she works as a machinist making curtains and she thinks sitting in one position to long and lifting and hanging heavy curtains has caused it.

I would ask to get a Health and Safety check done on her work situation as well as there maybe something the company can do to improve her posture when she is working ;)

I would suggest seeing an Osteopath and working with their recommendations. Physios tend to suggest exercises, ;) Maybe something needs putting right before exercise will help?

I found a TENS machine to be quite good when I had back pain but seeing an osteopath and acupuncturist for a few sessions was what sorted it out. HTH

What make of TENS did you use do you know if they differ?

I have a tens machine for my Back problems, I found it really, really helps and I've had major surgery on my back, so I can't let anyone like an Osteopath manipulate it!!! I actually bought mine at ASDA Chemist as it was the cheapest around, about £30...a few years ago they were £60=70!!! If your daughter sees a Physio they may be able to loan her a machine to try...this would save the cost of buying it if it doesn't work!!! PM me if you want any details, or if you want to borrow mine for a couple of weeks you'd be welcome!!! All the best, Dawn X

Thank you Dawn for the information and your very kind offer. My daughter is off on holiday at the weekend but I am sure she will have a word with the physio when she gets back. Thanks again Joany

Boots the chemist used to rent them out to women for labour but not sure if they do it for back pain.
Used one for child birth....the maternity hospital loaned them out. Think it helped. I used a chiropractor for a back problem a few years ago, it was fantastic, a different way to osteopath, not only did he sort out the original problem, he found a problem with my neck which had been causing me migrains for years. Sorted them too! They do a full check up on you before they touch you, xrays as well, just in case there is a problem like a fracture etc that they could make worse by treatment. I can't recommend one highly enough, during my treatments I have seen people come in hardly able to walk, even carried in, and after a few sessions they are walking freely. In fact I could give examples of so many, never mind myself, it could be a huge post :)

I was given a TENS machine to try by the pain relief clinic,it worked wonders on my back so went on to buy my own using a form given me by the physio which meant I didn't have to pay VAT,that was about 5 yrs ago.
Mine has 4 electrodes, different strengths adjusted by 2 knobs so they can be set at two settings. and a choice of continuous or pulsating ,I find the latter has a better effect. I can put it on before work and connect it to the box whilst on my break. The only time I can't wear it is whilst driving and in the shower/bath. It's difficult to place the sticky patches on your back but it comes with practice,I find the sore spot and place the 4 patches around it.
Hope this helps.

i have one, i hate it!!!! I may as well go into the field & hold on to the electric fencing for all the good it does & it certainly feels as uncomfortable as doing that!!! still I know others who swear by them, so give it a go. Good deals on them on ebay by the way!!
