My boy his 2.5 years and is far too thin.  He likes Royal Canin dachsie food but simply doesn't eat enough.  I think it might help to give him a good ratio of wet food and want to try this for him.  Can anyone recommend something that might be suitable?  I have tried tripe but he wasn't too keen.  Many thanks.

have you had him vet checked to make sure there is no underlying problem :) Also, have you considered worms? Not teaching granny to suck eggs, just a couple of 'what have yous' just checking :) If you want to feed to put weight on, try lamb breasts, they are quite cheap from the butcher, and I cook mine till the fat is cooked but not crisp. You can get blocks of various dog meat frozen from many of the pet shops, just to try and see which ones he likes. I would also try giving his total quantity of food in two meals, morning and early evening, see if he will eat a bit more this way. Just my opinion, but there are some natural feeders on here that can advise you better regarding natural feeding for good health and weight gain. Good Luck :)

Thanks for coming back on my message.  The vet is aware he is underweight so no problems we can tell.  I think he is just a rather hyperactive adolesent and my real worry about the lack of weight is cos I show him.  We have a new pup and I hoped that I could get Rupert back to 2 meals a day and that another dog would encourage him but no luck.  I can SOMETIMES get him eating breast of lamb but often as not he isn't interested.  But that was an excellent suggestion - thank you.

hi,
i have a sibe who is always thin and difficult to get weight on as he is a poor eater with a poor appetite.  i have been giving him visorbin and it has improved his appetite and he is eating much better and starting to gain weight finally!

I had a little minature wire-haired called 'Muffin'. He was a terrible eater, very, very fussy, hardly ate anything. I used to put his food in front of my cat & tell him that 'Tigger' would eat it! Sometimes he ate a bit, I know it's not an option if you are showing, but he didn't alter until he was castrated. Unfortunately he was monorchid, so he had to be done. Then he got quite fat & greedy, god rest his dear little soul. He has been gone for 2 years now, but I still miss him!

I had a faddy underweight Dachsie till I found Natures Menu,I mix it with JWB and he has gained weight, can't feel every vertebra now,his coat, longhaired cream brindle, is lovely and shiny and silky.

I'd highly recommend this combo to anyone having problems.

Natures menu and JWB sent me samples which meant I could try it out before buying it myself as I had been doing and wasting no end of bags of complete.

Good Luck

I found Autarky was excellent at putting weight on....in fact it was that good I had to take my lot off it since they were getting such small portions to keep their weight down I felt guilty!!!

Thanks all.  Some really good suggestions there which I will look into although my first reaction is to try Natures Diet which is the food I was swaying towards.

I have the most fussiest gsp created - although saying that he has me wrapped around his little paw!!

He has been on everything possible but I found that he only eats certain food for a short period of time then looks for something different.  He has been on RC too but I have found it is a bit rich for him and he won't eat it.  He is now on Hills and I mix grated cheese in with Natures Diet (just been to PAH and bought some more boxes/tub).  He also has roast chicken, tripe, breast of lamb, tuna and cat food (just don't ask)!!

It is most definitely me who has made him fussy but I really don't want him to loose any weight as I show him.

Good luck x
