Wrong advice from vets again, last thursday I had to start my peg on steroids, she has been on zubrin for about 8/9 months,so had the prednisalone in the cupboard ready and waiting, and last week I knew I couldn,t hold off any longer.Thing is, I asked the vet if I should keep giving the zubrin aswell and he said yes.
So,last night peg was very lame and couldn,t settle,so I called vet for advice,in the past he had said I could give her another half tablet of the zubrin, but when I said this he said I should not give the two drugs together as it really wasn,t good,It was late and I really wanted to say he had said it was ok,even my husband said he remembered him saying that, but I just said ok alright.
I want to say something, but I don,t know what exactly,as I know he will only deny,I am not happy, this had happened in the past with this vet aswell, and I didn't argue the last time,as I put it down to a simple mistake,I am not sure I will gain anything,
Thoughts anyone?

Think you need to clarify this ashlee, preferably when you are in a non-urgent situation and during normal working hours.  Whatever he may have said in the past, you do want clear, up to date information so you know what to do for the best.

What I've found helpful in the past is to take a notepad and pen and explain to the vet that I have a rubbish memory for details and like to have everything written down so I can't get it wrong. ;) When you next go in to ask for clarification perhaps you could try that? :)

Yeah, the note pad is a good idea,I really don,t want a row or any bad feeling, they have been treating peg since last August, when I phone up,they know my name without asking, as I have seen them so much, and I know I am quite demanding, asking a million questions ect so I will take notes next time.
Just ,you know, cant help but get a bit uptight, peg ill for so long and trying to do the best, they know I have a medical background so I think they thought I should have known.
Actually, I think I should of known.

Dont blame yourself, you are not the expert on drug interaction, the vet is. So lose that thought right now ...nag over :)

My now retired vet knew when my memory started to get a bit dodgy (on set of pre menopause grrrrr) and bless him he would write down for me what I should give and when, and what with what, so I could remember! My new vets very kindly do this too, coz I asked them making a jokey regerence to 'my age and short term memory loss :D I didnt need any other reason for this, but i would say that if the vet was a bit forgetful of advice given occasionally, it may be worth trying this, its in his own hand then, and if he gives advice over the phone, ask him to slow down so that you can write it down, and dont forget what hes said. Personally, I wouldnt confront him on this, he may genuinly not remember the advice he gave previously, but when you next see him, say that you think there was a bit of a mix up regarding the tablets, and can he go through it with you again. I'm sure if put the carefully worded way, you wont upset him. Taking notes yourself is a good idea too.

I hope your dog and you are feeling a bit better today :)

Thanks calmstorm,
Its ok to nag,I think I was upset about starting peg on steroids anyway,so techy ,techy all the way, but yep glad to say peg has picked up today, no limping on short walk, and I have been ambushed opening the fridge door for chicken,so pretty positive all in all,I am also starting to think of this as the way forward, and not back.
