Just a little confused here re KC rules etc.....

3 breed classes at Open Show.
Junior, Graduate, Open.

Open winner takes BOB from challenge line-up.

No RBOB or BP declared in ring.

BP informed of win outside of ring (by steward)
RBOB awarded to dog placed 2nd in Open - although dog was not called back to ring to compete as usually happens.  This was not declared in the ring but discovered later by asking show committee to enquire.

Is this permitted under KC rules?
The judge was a well-respected championship show judge.

The only award that has to be made everytime breed classes are on offer is Best of Breed, if there are separate sex classes then Res BOB must be awarded. There is no rule that states a BP must be awarded. There was no breach of KC rules by the judge or society. If there was only one unbeaten puppy it is by default BP. There is nothing to state the awards must be made with the dogs in the ring

KC R& R F(1).7 applies

Might be worth you investing £1.50 & buying a current set of F Rules & Regs they come in a neat booklet ;)

Unusual though - at my first ever show my Yankee was the only puppy, and we were called back into the ring to be awarded the rosette and told they couldn't give it to us unless we were in the ring. I don't think I've ever heard of awards being given without the dogs present, in fact when I've stewarded and a handler has refused to come back in (sour grapes at only being 2nd etc) then the judge has witheld whichever award they would have got.

It's more normal practise than hard & fast rules. LOL I know of a judge who awarded a Res CC with the proviso"if the 2nd in Post Graduate(the winner won the CC)had still been at the show she would have been awarded the Res CC" !!!!!

Thanks MM :-)

It was an "interesting" show and I know someone in another breed made an official complaint about the judging.
It did state in the catalogue BOB, RBOB & BP for each breed....?
But then it also stated rosettes 1st - 4th for each class (to be collected from the secretary's table) but when we went to collect them we were told there were no rosettes for our breed as they hadn't been sponsored...!

As a further matter of interest.....

If an official complaint is upheld, does the complainant receive a refund of the £35 fee?

I've been showing for many years but yesterday's show raised a few questions for me and I'm aware rules etc change...

I might just order that booklet :-)

We virtually got that once - my friend took my dog to a show and he was 2nd, and she came home, and afterwards heard the class winner got the CC and they'd been calling for him for ages. The write up said 'shame he wasn't there to challenge for the reserve' or something like that! :-D
