I have postes about other breeds Iam interested in awhile back and hubby and I just keep researching to find the one we are happy with... I have fallen in love with this breed and I so want one, of course not until my bostons have moved on so many years for that, but you can never gather enough information so doing home work very early...

Who all owns one and what can you tell me about them?

I would love to do Schutzhund if I can and with the breeds we have looked at this one seems to be the one that is capable for it. We were looking at the Mastiff breeds - Mastiff, Bull Mastiff and the Neo and they are just way to heavy set for this type of sport... Since I have my children in sports and the 4 bostons is why I don't have one yet, enjoying my boston's and letting my children enjoy their sports first, but am hoping sometime in the future I can add one to my home and hubby if he still wants can get his mastiff. I love the look of the one on Homeward Bound - Chase, just love the way that dog looks :) Every time I see one I always say there's my dog lol Hopefully some day :)

Unfortunately we are a UK site and they are banned from here!  The ones that people sell as this breed in the UK are more than likely just badly bred Staffies.

I've seen them in Europe and I have to say I quite like them, but there again, I do find something exciting in a dog that looks rather physical and athletic, even though I have hairy dogs :d

There are some Americans who pop on here now and again so they might be able to advise you more.

They're not banned here are they?? The Pit Bulls are...but to my mind, and I know a genuine breeder of these in Liverpool, they're not the same and are not banned???
- By MollMoo Date 15.06.06 15:11 UTC
The American Bulldog is not a banned breed in the UK although it is a breed not recognised by the Kennel Club.  Very nice dogs if you ask me! :)
- By spanishwaterdog [gb] Date 15.06.06 15:42 UTC
Ahhh, but as many of us have heard or read elsewhere what is supposed to be an American Bulldog over here isn't!!   I don't think that the Kennel Club would accept them which I think is a shame in many ways as I do with what happened to Pit Bulls but unfortunately they go into the wrong hands and are abused over here.

I know someone who supposedly has an American Bulldog, paid £600 for it it's no more of one than I am!  Ohh and I have seen real ones in Europe!

There are MANY reputable breeders of AB's within the UK that have stock from Overseas's have not got time to argue with any of you, taking my dogs for a well deserved walk! :)  But I am sure if you do a search on the net you will find a couple of quality kennels based within the UK that have imported such stock..Yes REAL AB's :)
- By newfiedreams Date 15.06.06 17:11 UTC
I agree with you Moll, I see them in Liverpool and they are nothing like Pitbulls!!! If I can tell the difference anyone can lol. And they, as I said before, are certainly NOT banned here!!!

I don't think you'd have much luck convincing someone under the DDA that it was not a dog of "Pit Bull type" - Staffs have been seized and held, despite KC papers etc :(

Personally I would never be able to take a dog that was under such obvious threat of the law - it would be heartbreaking to have a dog seized and have no "proof" that it wasn't one which came under the legislation :( :( :(
- By Ory [si] Date 17.06.06 17:37 UTC
Why would you have no proof of the breed.... let's say you buy one from US and you have all the papers and AKC registration .
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 17.06.06 17:54 UTC
That wouldn't matter. It would probably be seized at on arrival in the country. Customs officials aren't dog experts, and registration papers would be meaningless. If it looks a bit like a pitbull to them, then it can be taken.
- By ShaynLola Date 17.06.06 19:16 UTC
On another forum I visit, someone tried to import an American Bulldog from the US. It wasn't permitted into the country as it was deemed to be of 'pit-bull' type despite having paperwork stating that it was an AB.

The link I put on for Josh I really like their dogs so would probably be lookin into them :) of course I would make sure all was legal before I shipped a puppy here. Don't want to put any more trauma on a puppy then necessary and also don't want to be out of a puppy. Definately will make sure all is legal before hand :) If I can get a straight flight that would be so much better, but have plenty of time to do my homework ect ect, would be great by then if we can drive/fly up and pick our puppy out, I would be looking into a male. Going to enjoy my 4 boston's first before getting another dog and my kid's sports cause they really keep me busy.

What about a Rottie?  Heavy set breed which competes in Schutzhund?
- By dollface Date 15.06.06 17:08 UTC
Rottie's are a dime a dozen here, I use to fancy them but not that much, lovely breed though my friend has one :)

Here in Canada they are allowed as well as Pit's my bro has a pit/cross :) As far as I know no animals are banned here yet, fingers crossed it stays that way.

I just love the over all look of the AB, I think they are beautiful animals :) Hoping someday to have one.

>As far as I know no animals are banned here yet<

I just read the other month,in one of the dog mags that the staffies and their likeness have been banned in Canada
I was going to post about it on here, but i thought it probably would have already been covered as whenever i think i have a new tid bit of news it's already been talked about last week :o

Please!Somebody tell me they read it too and can remember which magazine it was in,coz i cant, and i dont feel like trawling through 10 issues to find it  :( It was either dogs today, your dog or dogs monthly, around the may/april issues.
- By Brainless [gb] Date 17.06.06 07:23 UTC
Yes I read it too, I think it may be a state ban though not country wide.  Still thin end of the wedge.  Not sure if it covers all the staffie like breeds, or just Pit Bulls and Am Staffs.
- By gduhig [gb] Date 15.06.06 22:58 UTC
I would do a lot of research into breeders & their dogs.  I see 1 of these type of dogs on a regular basis while out walking my dog it has a head far to large for its body that it cant hold its head at a normal level.
- By dollface Date 16.06.06 01:29 UTC
Ya I know what your talking about, I looked at some on the net and they have a huge spread as well as a very huge head  There was 2 on Animal Planet awhile back (think they were trying to call them pitt but the guy had papers saying they were AB) anyhow the male I think it was looked very nice but the female had this very huge square type head and huge spread and her front legs very bull like, almost looked like you could put a square box between her front legs with no problem :( Not the look I like at all.... I prefer the look of the one on Lil Rascals, HomeWard Bound, and Cheaper By The Dozen :) I really like the look of those dogs they seem to have a very nice build and well portioned. I love the colors of the one on Homeward Bound.

Sorry just had second thoughts and I was going remove second link, cause don't think I was able to post it.. was just showing pics of the dog, will understand totally if the link is removed :) Tried to click edit but guess I have been to long :(
- By Brainless [gb] Date 16.06.06 08:23 UTC
As long as they aren't links to your own site then you can post.  I got nothing when I clicked, but will try again.
- By Brainless [gb] Date 16.06.06 08:25 UTC
To be honest they look more like large rangy British type Staffs than anything to do with a Bulldog.

Dollface,

Petey on the Little Rascals was a pitbull mix.
- By dollface Date 17.06.06 15:42 UTC
Oooooooooooooooooh I didn't know that, I know the one on Cheaper By The Dozen is an AB...

I think they were planning on banning them in Onatrio: http://www.cbc.ca/story/canada/national/2005/03/01/pit-bull-ban050301.html

http://www.cbc.ca/story/canada/national/2004/10/15/pitbulls_ontario041015.html

Iam not sure if they are banned there for sure or not, but its not the breed its the individual dog, don't understand how they can blame a whole breed for what we humans have raised. Blame the person that raised/bred the dog...

I don't live in Ontario :) They are legal where I live, no breed banned here and hopefully it stays that way.
