Hi Everyone, have a 16mth maltese terrier coming to board in Aug. who was diagnosed with perthes at 6mths in left leg. She is going for more xrays in couple of weeks but vet has said he will have to operate anyway as he now thinks it is also in right leg. She is on metacam at the moment. Her owner doesn`t know anything about this disease & I dont know much, but she feels she doesn`t want to subject her to surgery if its not necessary. Vet also said he will spay her at the same time??? Could you give us some details on success rate of surgery, is it necessary etc, please? Would like to point her in the right direction. Thanks

Christine, there is quite a bit of info on the net about this condition. You might find these links of some interest, to be going on with: Legg-Calve-Perthes Disease or Perthes Disease
