Topic Dog Boards / Health / Drontal Puppy Suspension... puppy sick after taking it!
- By bsdmr2 [in] Date 04.06.06 16:13 UTC
Hi Everyone,

I wormed my pup on Friday and a couple of hours afterwards he was sick. He seems fine and running about like his normal self but i was just wondering has the suspension made him sick and has he been wormed properly with him being sick afterwards?

Any info would greatly be received.
Thanks

Two hours is a reasonable amount of time for absorbtion, certainly a good bit of it may have been taken in.  Wormers are strong chemicals I certainly would not like to repeat the dose before discussing with the vet the shortest period of time you could leave.

I once went to a seminar, held by the manufactorer of Drontal. It was suggested that the vomiting that can occur, is caused by toxines created by the worms when they die. Sorry, can't be more precise, didn't take notes, and it was a couple of years ago.
I once gave the three girls I then owned their worming tablets at the same time, useing Drontal for the first time.  Two hours later they all threw up on the stairs, coming down from the bedroom to get out into the garden  They obviously felt sick at the same time, after throwing up they were fine.
At the time I thought it was the Drontal tablets not agreeing with them, but the explanation of it being toxines is more likely.

had this happen to our puppy, Coco, last night, but didn't think about it until I read the threads on here, thought it was something he had eaten Unfortunately I gave him another dose of Panacur at lunchtime, so hope he is OK tonight. He didn't seem to suffer any ill effects afterwards.
