Topic Dog Boards / Health / Nerve/Spinal Damage?
- By newfiedreams Date 01.06.06 16:48 UTC
Hey, just wondered if anyone else had come across this problem. I'm having a problem with my 8 and a half year old bitch Cassie(She's a Newfie) She has some degree of faecal incontinence when walking(bizzarely enough) and a tremour or 'shake' in her back right leg when standing. Her movement is fine and she still does 4 miles day at brisk pace, with me and Storm. I suspect it's spinal damage or old age(obviously a Giant breed life expectancy 8 to 10 years) she is fit in all other ways, though she might have a little 'dribble' incontinence. Her pads are evenly worn and she has no apparent limp or lameness. I am taking her to the Vets at begining of July for Rabies booster anyway and it's not a desperate problem at the moment, but wondered if anyone else had similar or seen similar problem?? Thanks, Dawn

Could it also be a neurological problem? Just wondered if all seems even.

i have two young newfy's and they came from different breeders and both breeders had dogs aged 15 and 17 who were slow but otherwise healthy i hope all is well they are so lovely except mine are very boisterious and mischievious at the moment.

Hi Dawn hope your girls ok and its nothing too serious,
I wouldn.t like to guess whats the matter with her but if she,s walking a good four miles a day and not dragging her feet or scuffing her toenails she sounds like she,s doing ok for a middle aged dog of her size.
Hope when you see your vet he,ll put your mind at rest
KEEP THOSE RABIES BOOSTERS UP TO DATE READY FOR YOUR PLACE IN THE SUN,
Take care
Love Sharon xx
