how do you stop the dog digging up the lawn , my lawn has pot holes every where

:-D  Watch constantly, if your dog starts digging call him/her distract and find something else to do.

:-)   It is a natural part of being a dog, some breeds of dog, LOVE to dig.

:-P  Section off your garden, so that your dog can not get to your lawn unless you are out there with him/her.

It's all part of the joys of owning a dog I'm afraid.

Yes, mowing is quite treacherous in my back garden. You never know when you'll fall into GR made mommy-trap complete with overgrown grass covering (we're not suffering from drought up here)

Give it a digging pit of its own filled with sand and teach your dog that's the place to make holes for fun. You can hide toys and treats to keep them occupied. I keep promising one to my dog but it's behind several other to do's.

I've had success with the "poop in the hole" trick.  You stop filling up the holes with the dog's own poop when the dog finally digs a hole someplace where you don't mind having a hole.
