HI,

My Lab has started with really bad runs this morning! There is no blood in it or worms. She isn't as lively as normal but still alert and walking about. Normally with runs for less than 24 hours I wouldnt worry but her gums are brown which I dont know if this is right but I thought the gums is what the vets check for when checking the health of animals?

I have never seen her gums this colour before, normally they are pink.

My other dog doesnt seem to have any symptoms.

I cant take her to the vets today as it is bank holiday so I will phone them 2moro. But does anyone think it is urgent enough to take her to emeegency vets?

She keeps going onto garden and straining for ages but other than small amounts of liquid nothing is coming out!

I dont know what to do. This morning when I went to see her she had done it all other the hallway which is so not like her!

PLease help

Danielle : )

If you phone your vet now you'll probably be given the number of the emergency vet, who'll usually be happy to advise you over the phone, free of charge, and will only arrange to meet you if it seems warranted.

Hi, Do you think it is anything to worry about?

I'm not a vet! ;) And of course it'd be illegal for me (and unwise even for a qualified person) to give medical advice without seeing the patient.

That said, usually the runs clear themselves up with a day's fasting, but make sure she drinks fluids - not milk! You say her gums are pink normally? What happens if you press on the gum and then release - how does the colour change? Has she eaten anything she shouldn't, that might cause a blockage? The straining could be just due to gripes and discomfort, but she might be trying to pass something.
