Topic Dog Boards / Health / Pot belly - could it be a tumour?
- By Crazydoglady [gb] Date 27.05.06 19:45 UTC
I might be nothing but I'm worried!
Over the last week or two I've noticed my westie has gained a little pot belly. She had put on a bit of weight last year but we've got it back off her by cutting down on the treats and increasing her exercise. So she now has her waist back. So what I'm getting at is it's not fat I don't think, as she clearly a different shape even from when she was fatter.
She is up to date with her wormer and has been spayed so is not pregnant.
But now I'm worried she may have a tumour! (The reason the thought came into my mind is that my boss recently lost his 11 yr old bullmastiff to a stomach tumour and she had the same pot belly!)
I've got her booked into the vet on tuesday but thought I'd see what people thought!
Thanks!
Holly

Could it be a result of her spaying?

Hi,
Bitches do put on weight after being spayed, it is more noticeable in the smaller breeds.

Some dogs do apparently put on weight after spaying, however, my dog hasn't put on an ounce.  Sounds like a trip to the vet would be in order if only to put your mind at rest.
