Topic Dog Boards / Health / Badly cut pad

My very active (working type) Springer has a nasty cut on her pad - it looks quite deep and is quite long.  She had antibiotics for a rip on her chest (she's no lady, my girl) and I have booked to see the vet tomorrow but am wondering if there is anything they can actually do.  I'm keeping it clean with salted water and walking her on grass, where she is tearing round, but I don't know that I'm doing the best thing. She knows her foot hurts but she still wants to go out. Any thoughts?

It will heal, but I wouldn't let her tear around on it.  Put her on a lead for a wee.

If you are at the vets tomorrow ask for an empty drip bag.  With a length of bandage thread through the top, it makes a great boot that stays on.

edited to correct spelling, I really shouldn't post after half a bottle of wine :)

I've had this happen to a couple of my dogs.  I made boots for them when for when they were outside, just to protect the  pad, then at least they could get to go for a walk without opening up the cut.

Sarah.
