Topic Dog Boards / Behaviour / dirtying house, after first season
- By wolfwoman [gb] Date 19.05.06 16:28 UTC
puepa has been dry in the house since she was 6 months old. she is now coming on 9 months, not long finished her first season and she has started to poo and wee all over the house. she was never this bad even when she was a little pup.

over the last month we had even started to let her have moe or less the whole run of the house during the day, obviously when im in.

yesterday she urinated and pooped in my bedroom.

i never catch her doing it. however after she has done it i can tell she has done something becasue she looks shifty and is quite. obviosuly waiting intill i find it, then as soon as i shout out "whats this puepa" she legs it out the back.

its a shame, but im goign to have to go back to basics with her, that will mean crateing her when i am not in the room with her. and taking her out when im with her. i knwo she can hold it in. and she never does it in frount of me.
in fact if i was sat in the room all day she would go out the back thoruth the dog flap no problems.

any ideas?

Sorry but you are totally wrong dogs do not feel guilt The body language you perceive as "guilt"is appeasement, because of your reaction to what you find, it could be your facial expression, the way you move or the sound you make

I used to show people that I could get this reaction from my dogs even though they had done nothing i used to use one of my beardies who was particularly reactive to my facial expressions This is what I did I simply looked at her frowning, wearing an angry expression & she would instantly go into appeasement mode. I turned away & looked back at her smiling & she stopped.

There is no point telling your dog off if she does something wrong whilst you are not present

As to the toilet training yes back to basics I'm afraid, but it shouldn't take long to get her back into her routine & previous good behaviour. Don't forget she has just a disruption to her life by being in season
