I've been searchinhg the internet for these and an't find anything. I'd bought nylon ones and at ringcraft was told they are no good for my dogs . I've been advised to use jewlers link choke chanis because they don't break the hair and a quality leather show lead.
I know whwre to get the chsins but can't find leads. Also I'm not sure about the choke chains... they are not always 'in fashion' so is that good advice.
Also on breaking the hair round the ruff..I find ths wears through noirmsal life as I take mine out a lot and their collars seem to do damage to the fur around their neck so any idea what is the best to use in normal life to stop their necks going too bald! At the moment I use a rolled leather collar for long days out, a flat rogs for dogz comfy collar for normal walks and a slip lead for agility and I find some of the ruff wears away quite badly at times. So any tips will be appreciated.
Thanks.
The best thing is to see what others are showing on in your breed.
I show on a thin check chain but only because it hides under the collar. I run on a loose lead so it doesn't matter and it doesn't damage the coat. Try luxway. They have a good selection of leads and collars. Certainly one that will suit.

Thanks...mine are Aussies and the advice I'm given is by an experienced BC breder and shower she told me luxway for the jewlers link collars but wasn't keen on the leads but couldn't remember where to get the leads from.
btw...also what collar do you use cos I was told not to use one? Thanks.
Ooh, Aussies, me like. It's up to you. I've got mine from luxway and I love one cos its flexible. The other one feels a bit stiff. They have a good selection of chains, halfchecks etc. I think aussies are shown pretty much on the same as borders, from what I've seen at shows.
Trying to think of the other good lead place. It will come to me.
It wasn't Penny you spoke to was it. Just she has Aussies and BC's.

No not Penny..I don't know Penny.
She said the lead place began with a...errrr.... D...
I think. I have the Luxway catalougue but there is so much in it I don't know which are any good. She circled the chain and sizes I need to that helps.

I use Accolade Leathercrafts (
http://www.accoladeleathercraft.com/ ) round hlf check collars for everyday for my girls,a dn al chain half check or pretty check chain for showing with a comfortable leathr lead that is easily folded in the hand, not too light if your dog needs to know you are in control.

I find the rolled leather half check collars do the less damage round the neck, though mine don't wear collars at home. The show chains I use are not links but like a snake chain, if you see what I mean? I got both the chain and leather show lead from a stall at Crufts but I have seen them at other shows, open and champ, they weren't cheap and are strong enough to hold a leo :) For normal walks I use the rolled leather collar and leather training lead.
I think I have seen them online, someone will come along with a link for you soon, in the meantime I will try to find it :)
Missie you need a ball and chain to hold on to your dogs ;) Tenaj, remind me what breed do you have again?

Thanks.. mine don't wear collars at home just for walks... I wonder which of the collars I use is damaging their ruff.... maybe it is the slip lead even though it's only used for a couple of hours a week.
aaagh! I knew I shoul have looked at Crufts but thee was too much to see. Oh well....
waiting patiently for a link.
I couldn't say. Mine just wear a the soft nylon ones in the house and for walks. I've never had a problem. Again, i'm comparing the BC to the Aussie but I thought there coats were similar.
Bit stumped. Are all your dogs the same or is there one which seems to loose more over the others?
PS Ignore Missie and Leomad. They have beautiful Leonbergers and there favourite joke is to get me to hold them then call there dogs. Some people are sad ;)

I've two. It's highly excited fluffy fuffed boy who damages his fur. Not all that badly but you can feel it when you fuss him. My girl avoids this problem by shedding her coat before her fur gets to look good anyway.

My hubby and son stuck to me like glue watching my every move. I already seem to have aquired so many different leads and collars for normal life that they think it's some kind of wierd fettish! So it was a little hard to break free to splash out on more leads! ;)

Great link! Thanks!
That hould find plenty to chhose from.
Any idea what size length colour etc.. .I should be looking for? Mine are reds so should I look to get brown ? I am only going to do very light showing to learn the ropes but I'd like to get it as right as I can. Thanks.

Lengh of chain - to fit round neck and over head at least, however long you like but normally kept quite short and so it just fits comfortably.
Lengh of lead - again as long as you like. I prefere a lead that when on the dog is just long enough to fold twice in my hand and be at the right leangh to hold when moving the dog.
Colour - brown lead with a silver chain (if white blaze) or gold chain (if red) on the neck.

Hi My Sis in law has aussies and Rough collies she uses
these and a thin leather lead, one from Luxway would be fine. She tends to walk them on just a flat half check collar although the roughs all wear rolled leather slips to protect their manes.HTH.
Depending on what type of leather you want you can try www.accoladeleathercraft.com, they do all sorts of good leather leads and show collars and with a good saddle soap the leads become softer however I like www.pet-needs.co.uk as they made me a great lead for showing - it is oiled leather so is very soft but also very strong and cost me a tenner plus P&P :D

I always get my show collars and leads from Deva Dogware, they are at a lot of the champ shows and their website is www.devadogware.com. I've found their leads great - nice and strong but not stretchy, and the collars are lovely too. :-)

Thanks to you all! Ah yes!
Deva dogware! That's the one I couldn't remember. Thanks.
But..oh dear.... so many now to choose from... way too much choce!
Is there an ideal width? ... all the leads come in so many different widths as well as lengths and colours!

I like flat leather of 8mm!!!! :D

Oh Drat they come in flat too! ..so braided, or round or flat!

.... it's worse then choosing shampoo!

OKay...ummmm....to choose is soooo hard......maybe I will just go for pink! or how about
cheap! lol! :D

Can't find a contact phone number for the Deva dogs? Anyone got one. My PC has gone verry funny and crashes if I click on email links so I need to ring in to ask more informtion to make sure I order the right lead and for making my order. I can call one of the other companies though.
I was thinking on the choke chains... I've been told thy are the best thing to use but last show I borrowed a fine jewlers chain and someone told us they don't like to see choke chains used. As my teen son will be showing he needs something that won't attract critisism so will a youth be better with a half check or will he be okay with a jewlers chain ...the dogs ideally and hopefully won't be pulling anyway.
Thanks.

Nylon leads are fine if thats what you feel comfortable with!!!
With my aussies I either use a chain and leather lead or full leather slip lead (but only because I like leather and hate nylon!!!)
You could also use a half choke on an aussie.
The leads are only on for while the dogs are in the ring so never have a chance of breaking the coat.
