i've got a lovely ckc bitch who is 16wks, i've had dogs before but never had this problem, Meg will go to the toliet in the house just after she has been taken out, she will even poo in her own bed and walk in it and seem to not care:rolleyes: I've just tried cleaning up and constantly taking her out and praising her when she goes outside, I put her in a cage at night and if i pop out during the day, shes never left more that a couple of hours but she does tend to chew so its for her own saftey, I've not told her off for going to the toliet in the house as i don't think its effective? Shes never gone on paper either, I'm washing bedding nearly everday any tips would be great.

Be persistant, take her out every hour to start with,if she doesn't do anything after a reasonable time outside, carry her back in,put her in her crate for 10 minutes and try again, continue like this till she gets the message, give her a really tasty treat[tiny cube of cheese] that you keep just for toilet training so she soon learns there will be something worth having if she gets it right, when she has been and done her business then she will be safe to leave out of the crate till you are next ready to take her out. Don't give her the full run of the house confine her to a couple of rooms that you are in at the time so if she gives a signal that she wants to go out you are with her to notice, the signals can be subtle to start with and may take a while to pick up on them. If you have to leave those rooms just pop her back in the crate for a few moments and make a big fuss if she is quiet and clean when you get back.
Gradually increase the time between visits outside when she is reliable at 1 hourly intervals.

Does she get put in her crate as a punishment? If so the fouling of her bedding may be her way of showing her frustation at being confined.

I have a dachsie and they are really stubborn and using this method has worked for me and several other dachsie owners I know.

Good luck

I will give that ago, thanks for your reply.  No i don't put her in the cage as punishment just to keep her safe when i'm not around as she did chew a wire once:eek: Thanks again

I was going to post on this very subject too!! :)

The little donkey, Warro (eats carrots and is growing enormous! :D)  will only go in his cage or in one place in the back room, where Sasha sleeps!!

I've never had problems house training any of the others, and when he has (very) occasionally done anything outside have gone overboard with the praise (have mis-timed it on occasion, by praising him whilst he is actually 'doing it' causing him to stop and come to me for more praise instead ).  I have been spending loads of time putting him in his cage and taking him straight out to go outside again, spent ages outside just waiting for him to go on the basis he can't wait forever , he can even go outside, do something and then go back in his crate to do more!!!!

I'm almost at my wits end!  The only thing I can think of is to keep at it and hope the penny drops, but any suggestions, similar experiences would be gratefully received
