What do you use/feed/spray/rub in/rub on etc???

Is there really any way to encourage new coat to grow faster???

Hi, I use a zoom groom or a rubber curry on my dogs coat. Its great for removing unwanted hair. You can also feed malted kelp tablets from Dorwest herbs which is great for encouraging coat pigmentataion and growth.

You cannot give kelp/seaweed in the summer months as it can be overheating to a dog.

I don't know if anything can really promote more rapid hair growth but I have found that Royal Jelly in capsule or liquid form can help the texture of the new coat coming through & Quistel shampoo.

Royal Jelly can be bought from Groomers http://www.groomers-online.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=9_56 or Holland & Barrett in capsule form.

Quistel  http://www.actigeneruk.co.uk/quistelframeset.htm

And as Brainless says good quality nutrition going into the dog.

It can only be helped with optimum nutrition (assuming we aren't talking long coats here that will be improved with ensuring they are not damaged).

The product "Restore" is quite good.   I will try and find the link.

Has anyone ever tried "Skin, Hair & Nails" supplements for humans?  I was advised a good level of zinc would help coat to re-grow?

I'm tempted to give them a go....but I also want to be sure they won't do any harm.

Hi Debs

Yes my daughter tried this  "Hair skin & Nails supplement" and everyone remarked on how good her hair and skin looked, sent me off scurrying to buy some.  Definitely worked for her.

I was recommended to put evening primrose oil in with Max's food - he dropped his coat following surgery on his tail.  Whether it's just growing back anyway but I have to say his coat is thickening back up. Been about three weeks - month and still some to go but definitely improving!

People did mention rubbing vitamin e on his tail (where it had been shaved) but I didn't try that.

Brushing was another thing daily to stimulate growth by removing the dead hair - but do that daily anyway!

i have been giving  my tibetan terrier one evening primrose capsule everyday since march and it is certainly making a difference
i have also been giving her kelp seaweed  capsules one a day since march 2005 except for the summer as it can cause overheating

I used to given my Beardies Gold Label Biotin It's actually for horses & encourages coat regrowth & hoof strengthening.

There's a stronger mix that a friend used for a dog with a weak nail problem that they had spent £1,000's @ the vets with no success After a month on it the dogs nails were normal & he never had another problem with them & he stayed on the Biotin all his life. Their vet now suggests it in similar cases !

I have no idea if this works or not but I read about this in a leaflet and thought it might be worth a link
