Hi,
My 15 week old Labrador has just started to lose a couple of teeth. Poor little mite, I do feel for him or rather I should say for myself as he has just started to try and chew my hands again for which he had stopped about 3 weeks prior. I'm not worried as I know it is just down to the teething, but how long does it usually take for the 2nd set of teeth to come through? Is there anything in particular I can give him to help? - does that sound daft? He does have a lot of different textured toys, eg, rope toy, hard rubber bone that kind of thing.
Thanks for your help.
Lauren.

Nips started at about that age. From what I remember, he'd replaced the little razors with a much more civilised set of gnashers by seven months.

Hi....i treat my pups as i would a baby, teething rings and hard toys in fridge, i also give carrots from the fridge[ for pups not babies i hasten to add!] i use bonjela if the gums look really sore and as you already have, lots of different textured toys rope pully things seem to be favourite as i think the cloth might actually massage the gums and ease the pain.Luckily it doesnt last long, the long cannine teeth taking the longest to drop out and always look the sorest, my last beagle used to come when she saw the bonjela come out of the draw so i think it does help
regards

Hi,
Thanks for that - just a few months of chewed hands then!!! Will try the bonjela if he gets bad with it. Thanks, lauren
Can't recommend Anbesol highly enough instead of Bonjela. It is a liquid (sold over the counter in chemists) instead of a gel, and so it soaks straight into the gums with immediate and longer lasting pain relief (rather than the gels which tend to slide off the gums). I used this on my baby and now have it on standby for my 14 week old RR pup.

Soak a tea towel, tie it in a knot and chuck it in the freezer. I tried the human teething ring with my Golden but decided his bite was too strong. He would have just demolished the thing. He liked ice cubes and denta chews/rawhide strips as well. He could gum one of those for ages without actually eating much of it. Nylabones, but sounds like you have those. I think he was around 9 months old before all the adult chompers were in.

Good marrow bone from the butchers whips them out pretty efficiently and saves the wrong things being chewed.

And try not to play tuggy games at this stage as my poor pup lost 3 teeth

during a game when I didn't realise he was teething then  he soon forgave me for the lack of tuggy play when exchanged for a nice cold marrowbone from the butcher :-D
