Someone I work with is going to live in France and wants to take her dog. They will not be coming back to UK. Do any of you know what she needs to do about taking the dog over. It has not been rabies vaccinated and they leave in a few weeks. Thanks in anticpation :)

She will need to have the rabies vaccine, pet passport and chipped [if it isn't already] the dog can then not leave the country until 28 days after the rabies vaccine.

If she is not coming back to the UK she only needs the Rabies vaccinations & to be tattooed or microchipped & have a Pet Passport. The french have not yet made chipping the only method of ID nor does the dog have to titre tested(no mention of this on the French Gov site, nor is there any mention that the dog has to wait 28 days before travelling to France

It's only if the dog is to come back that the dog has to be chipped & titre tested

Is rabies vaccination mandatory for dogs already resident in France?

I know when one of my pups was going to Holland via France it could go unvaccinated with a Pet Passport under 3 months of age, but ahd to have a Rabies vaccination and woudl nto be able to travel for 28 days after if it was over, so think you need to check with French authorities.

Thanks Moonmaiden
She may have a problem looking at your link. I have only seen a pic of the dog and it was a staffie. The woman says she is a 'pedigree' but I think she may not be KC registered. The info says no staffordshire terrier breed without a pedigree!! Does this mean KC or just a written pedigree do you think? I have printed the info off for her. Also it does say the rabies jab, but I presume it does not have to wait the 7 months as we are rabies free and it is not coming back

She might want to have a look at this link & possibly contact the Staffords website to check the current status

Puppies can't be vax for Rabies under 13 weeks/3 months which is why they can travel without being done to some countries

Dogs not returning don't have to wait the 6 months after the titre test as they don't need to have the titre test done ;)
