Hi all,
can somebody tell me if these two tripes are the same? (sorry being a little bit silly today ) I have read on here that green tripe is good for weight gain , (I hope this is correct) now I need to put a bit of weight back on my boy as he has gone right off his foods since he had a poorly spell over easter and recently.. So I need to know basically are the frozen bags of tripe you get in PAH this stuff or where can I find it as nobody in PAH could give me a straight answer lol  Thanks for any help you can give  :-)

Yes, Emz77 - the frozen green tripe that you can buy at PAH is exactly what you've been reading about.  There are other outlets which stock it but many you have to buy in bulk orders so with one dog getting it as a dietary addition I'd imagine you'll get good enough value at PAH.

regards, Teri :)

Thanks guys will get to PAH pronto :-) blade is in need of some extras ( also lamb breast and chicken wings for variety!) I'm sure he will love it if it stinks he will eat it at the expense of everybody else's nose by the sound of things

Oh My I never realised tripe would smell like that  what is it? it is stinking out my lounge (and it has already been eaten )

The freeflow tripe is not meant to smell as bad!  have you tried that?  the blocks do smell I agree but doesn't smell my house out - did you cook it or defrost in the microwave - cos that really does stink the whole house out!!!

But bet doggy loved it? :)

no this was free flow frozen pack, I added to usual kibble along with warm water (so probably that making it smell!) just left it Raw and he wolfed the whole lot down! so maybe it's his breath I am smelling

maybe i've just got used to the smell now!!!  As initially (2 years ago) used to want to honk when I dished it up (esp. for breakfast) and now it's such an easy thing for me to do.  My sense of smell to it has disappeared!!

It could have been the hot water making it pong that bit more - not sure about the breath don't get that close after they have eaten!! :) if I can help it!!!  It's the sardine breath that really gets me and my OH - eau de fish - yuk!

OH has decied he wants to feed raw tripe and packed me off to the friendly local abbottior. Not knowing what size tripes were i breezily asked for 'about 4'. When the man and his son carried out four enormous bags i was a little concerened but didn't want to lose face and just asked them to put them in the boot.

Well, they filled the boot of my estate car and stunk out all of it. My children were crying in the back as they were very close! I drove home and sheepishly told the OH that i thought i had got too much.......

I left him at home with the tripes and quickly went to town :D

When i came back he had washed them in the bath  and had them cut up into smaller bits on the washing line, the garden fence, the dog run........

He spent the rest of the evening cutting it up and bagging it. Next was the task of fitting it all into our (normal size)  freezer. We got it all in eventually.

After about 3 days the smell from the freezer nearly knocked you over as you went past the kitchen and i refused to open the door. I was told (by OH) not to be so 'soft' and get used to it. About a week later it got so bad we had to investigate, a bag had slipped and pushed the door open at the bottom so it wasn't sealed. All the bags at the bottom had defrostred and gone off:eek::eek:

We had to put it out in the field for the foxes. And bleach out the freezer; repeatedly. Now almost a month later the smell has gone....almost

PAH freeflow for us now and after the palaver before it smells fine to me!!!

ROFLMAO Helen, I am sat here crying at the complete scenario! poor you, I have just never smelt anything like it, and some people complain about chappie  :-D
- By rachelsetters Date 16.05.06 07:42 UTC
Sorry but this did make me smile - I really don't think I could get fresh tripe - sounds a right palavar and I'm sure the smell if horrendous!! (sp?)

The chappie made me think about the day I had to get in Butchers as missed getting to the our pet food supplier in time - boy that really does pen and ink doesn't it!

I find it best to double wrap the frozen tripe and to defrost it in a sealed container (Icecream container is good), then fed it straight away.
