I have a one year old westie who still loves to chew anything........He doesnt chew furniture, wires etc but will pick up odd items indoors or out which he can find. It seems almost obsessional, when he wakes up in the morning and comes out of his crate he has to pick something up like a sock. He will chew toilet rolls and shred paper, all his toys have been chewed and eaten within days, most bones, tripe sticks etc are demolished in 20 mins, he chewed an old clock my mother somehow left within his reach, nothing deters him. He is not teething now and gets plenty of mental stimulation and exercise. He has lots of puzzle toys which I rotate where he has to work to get treats out. I often give him his food (naturediet)in a kong so he has to work to get his dinner. I get bones which he enjoys for a while and then gets bored with and seeks something else less appropriate. Basically if he is not asleep he has to have something in his mouth.
Is it usual at this stage to still be chewy?
NB The vet described him as a scavenger!

Tara chewed a lot (walls, floors, door frames etc) until she was a year and then stopped - never chewed anything since, apart from the odd stick :D

i thought we'd got over the chewing phase since he now confines it to designated chewy objects like his nylabones. that is until i found he'd chewed his way through the poop scoop in the garden yesterday! admittedly it was clean but ewwwwwwwwwwwww!

Harvey is almost 9 months old now and has been chewing like crazy this last week or so.............he chewed the corner off a skiting board on Saturday
