Topic Dog Boards / Behaviour / mad behaviour!
- By pinklilies Date 08.05.06 22:04 UTC
My afghan bitch, Delilah, aged four, is behaving really strangely. Normally she is calm but playful. For the past few days she is completely over excited! She is making excited humping movements all the time, but not actualy mounting anything. she is leaping about in wild enthusiasm, barking a lot, jumping all over me, frantically throwing toys......she looks like she is on speed!
My routine has not changed in any way at all, she is not due in season, and I am really at a loss. I must emphasise that she is cheerful, not in any distress, and does not appear to be ill at all, and my tactics thus far have been to ignore the wild behaviour, and keep her as calm as i can.
Any ideas?

What are you feeding her?  Has this changed?

A bad case of 'Spring Fever' ? :D lol !

Mine are all a bit giddy at the moment, the sun is out, the birds are singing, and even better, the ducks are sitting in the fields just waiting to be chased!

my younger girl is behaving exactly the same especially the  humping movements !! she isnt due a season for another month health wise she is fine so I just ignore it.
I recon Louise is right 'spring fever' :)

Must be, my two had a mda 5 minutes this morning - we were crossing a field one minute, then they both took off behind me - when I turned round they were both on their backs rolling like loons!  Nothing there to roll in, although I do now have two muddy pups!

Personally I encourage it, they make me laugh when they're having crazy moments :)

I havent changed food or treats...I think you are probably right about spring fever.....she is totally wild!

A little bit of "joie de vivre"! That's what makes dogs so great!

Don't ignore it ... encourage it!

We can all learn great things from our lovely companions and "enjoying life just because" is one of them :-)

Cheers,
Patty

if the weather in your neck of the woods is anything like the sudden onset of summer here in Sunny Sussex By The Sea, "spring fever" will soon be replaced by "snoozy hot dog" syndrome! :D

yep can vouch for that - lovely early evening walk - all doggies having a dip in the stream (not quite by the Sea) in my part of Sussex but definitely Sunny!  and now a lot of relaxed and chilled out doggies!

Just love evening walks when the weather is like this.

My dog humps and is crazy all the time, she is an adorable Boxer, and keeps me well entertained, but is pushing it a bit now better weather is here, think its given her an adrenaline rush......I just sit and watch her she gets bored before I do.

It could be an added ingedient put in by the manufacturers. eg: a bit of sunshine, warmth and high spirits.:-)
Lovely.

That is how one of mine gets when hormonal (in season) so unless she is spayed that would be my guess
