Hello!
I have a four month old puppy who is currently fed on a mix of hills science plan chicken and rice and hills science plan for large breed puppies (we are changing to the large breed food) and we have been soaking it in a small amount of water. Recently, she has gone off her food but we found that if we fed it to her dry, she liked it alot more than when slightly soaked. Will she be able to digest it ok if i dont soak it ad what is a good age to switchto adult food? She is very leggy.
Thanks in  advance

thats fine if that is her preference just make sure she has plenty of water available.
depends on the food if you look at the packet it should say its usually 12-18m for adult but some have a junior but she is only a baby so stick with the puppy for a while yet.

My pup was never keen on having her kibble soaked either when she was little either so she ate it dry and always had plenty of fresh water available,

Our pup will scoff it down whether soaked or dry! I'm not sure which is best though? Is it easier to digest if it's soaked?

I think it's swings and roundabouts.  It probably is easier to digest if wet, but if dry it is said to be better for their teeth, cleaning them as they crunch....

Whether either of these are true, who knows.

If feeding unsoaked food, it naturally means the food will swell INSIDE the stomach rather than outside it -soak some and see just how much it expands. It's a lot, meaning the stomach acids have to work overtime to break it down. This can lead to all sorts of problems and personally I would never do it. I've soaked my dogs' food for the past 20 years or so and their teeth have been just fine -they get sterlised bones to chew. I've never had to have a dog have its teeth descaled at the vets out of all the dogs I've had.

I agree with Marianne about doing a test soak,it will also give you a good idea about the quality of your food. The foods with good ingredients dont tend to swell up at all,,where as the lesser foods tend to swell up to sizes quite a bit larger then when they were dry :(

I did this test with my food, berrimans, and a number of supermarket brands of questionable quality,my dry didnt change shape at ALL,the other brands swelled up considerably! The thing is,most people dont think to soak their dogs food and most people feed these supermarket brands :( I wonder how many cases of bloat and goodness knows what other digestive conditions can be attributed to this?
