Some people will remember from a previous post that I recently took on a yorkie pup that needed a home. I rang his breeder to let them know where he was. She sounded lovely and said if there was any problems she was happy to take him back and thanked me for letting her know. I was really pleased last night to get a phone call from her to make sure everything was ok and that I was happy to keep him. What amazed me was that during our last conversation I had mentioned that I had a 2 year old cairn and she had mistakenly thought that it was a bitch, last night she suggested that I mate my cairn with my yorkie as "they would make lovely pups" I am amazed that she would suggest that, and that she would want her yorkie mated with a cairn anyway. I thought breeders would have been set against mating cross breeds. Im afraid although she sounds lovely and I am glad she took responsibility for one of her pups seriously I lost some respect for her as a breeder.

Oh dear!! There are responsible breeders and there are puppy producers.
I'm pleased that your new addition has settled in well and there is a happy ending to the story.
Gosh, no wonder you lost faith in her, just shows what her breeding ethics are really like, glad you've got him and he wasnt sent back to her, who knows how many different breeds she would have shared him around!
Glad he is settling in well!

....to be fair, it may have been a stupid throwaway statement that she didn't even really think about making. Seems a daft thing for a woman who had impressed you in every other way to say. Foot in mouth can happen and you only think about it afterwards, but true enough, it wasa VERY stupid thing even if it was a gentle joke. You might have taken her up on the idea after all!
Good luck with the little lad.

I think you may be right wylanbriar as she has been breeding yorkies for 30 years and she said that she would have had no problem re-homing Jake as she has a waiting list so I assume she is a respected breeder. I should give her the benefit of the doubt and as my only contact with her is as Jakes breeder and he is settled here and I have no intention of breeding even if I was able it isn't a problem. Just for some reason I felt disappointed in her comments.

Half the Yorkies I see these days ARE Cairn terriers anyway! The people that bought our house had 2...ermm...Yorkies! LOL, I took my wee boys down to meet her 2 GIANT CAIRNS!!! Needless to say she got them from a famous puppy farmer round Manchester way!!! Mine look more like them there MINIATURE Yorkie types that people are always asking for!!! (Please note my tongue is very firmly in my cheek when I talk of miniature Yorkies!! LOL :D :D :D)

My breed is often mistaken for overgrown yorkies or 'some kind of cross'. So maybe as an uncommon breed a lot of people assume they aren't genuine pedigrees in their own right.

You must not forget that puppy producers often do care about the puppies the are just reckless with the breed. You will find puppy producers in many a disguise and show up in many a circle.
