i'm really worried me and my daughter have just been stroking poppy my lab and we've found a hard mass just underneath her rib.I rang the vets and we're taking her in to be checked out tomorrow.I feel really sick though cos this is how my old dogs Ben's cancer started and he died at 9.poppy is 9 on the 25th of may!!  :(:(

So sorry to hear that Candie :( Fingers crossed it is just a fatty lump, which older dogs do get........let us know how you get on.

Try not to worry too much. Easier said than done, I know. Both my old girls, nine and eleven, are full of lipomas, have been for years now. They both got their first lumps around seven, and are still both happy, healthy old girls.
Fingers crossed Poppy's lump is nothing serious,
Karen

Just got back from the vets, who said its probably a lipoma but we have to keep an eye on the size it grows, as it might need to come off to be analysed.I'm kind of relieved now!!:rolleyes:

Glad to hear it's probably nothing serious. When one of my boys got a small fatty lump as a youngster my friend told me to insist the vet take it off in case, as we didn't then know what it is and I didn't like the suggestion of waiting to see if it grows, but of course if your dog is older then it's a whole different scenario. :-)

Glad to hear Poppy's lump probably isn't anything serious! I try to keep track of my old girls' lumps; locations, sizes and texture. That way I hope to notice if there is a new one that differs from the rest. The biggest one is on my eldest girl, it's actually the size of a golf ball. Due to a heart murmur she has developed in later years ( no need to worry, she's not been bred from) my vet has recomended me not to have her under anastetics just to remove it. She's been living happily with this lipoma on her neck, for three years now. It's not bothering her at all, it's not tender to the touch, and to be honest I don't think she knows it's there
