Topic Dog Boards / Behaviour / EBT first season...
- By akh0706 [gb] Date 20.04.06 11:44 UTC
Hi
My 9 month EBT is coming to the end of her first season. But in the past couple of days she has been trying to wrap her front legs around my 13 yr old sons legs & arms, I guess to try & hump him!  I tell her 'no', she then stops & goes to sleep. Does anyone think it may be his age & a hormone thing? We did spray air freshener on his tracksuit bottoms & that worked for a while! Any other ideas or have we just got to see it out?
Thanks
Anne

Hi Anne,

I'd definitely discourage her from doing this - if distraction doesn't work or isn't a fairly immediate solution then a firm tone saying "ah, ah" followed by reward should work :)   It's not unusual for youngsters of each sex to behave that way.

HTH, Teri

I would advise not rewarding after interrupting the behaviour.   This could make the dog do it more - she will suss out that the more she does it the more treats she gets.

It is probably just an effect of high levels of progestin at the end of her season but it can be a learned behaviour so just remove or prevent her from doing it.

Hi,

I also agree with Teri, discourage if you can, it is very common so not to worry, some dogs do it others don't.  My mum has 4 and only the female terrier humps. (Mens feet of all things :-))
