Topic Dog Boards / Health / Bleeding Ear

Anton cut his ear 3 weeks ago and it was fine.  The last few days he's been scratching it and shaking his head and the blood is really flowing.  It's right at the tip of his ear, what's the best way to try and dry this up?

I would use (sp) potassium pomangenate, available from any pharmacy and should cost pennies, it stops the bleeding straight away, used when removing dewclaws.
If that does not work send him to me :-)  I have been admiring SWD's for some time now, first saw one about 4yrs ago at Berrow Sands
:-)

I'll fold him up and send him now :d :d  He's black and white, absolutely gorgeous, but has rather long legs !!  Character to die for though so I can't complain

I like the Black & Whites, I've been looking at Terris over the last few weeks, I think she is lovely.
I have been considering an SWD for the future to show alongside my Labs but I was a little concerned as I read somewhere that being a herding breed they tend to nip and chase/bully other dogs in their pack, is this true?? I have Labs who would just let this happen, after reading this I saw that Terri has them with her FC's, wonder if she finds this a problem.

Never had a problem and a number of us go on walks with about 12 lose and never have any problems with other dogs.  The main problem is that just before a season the bitches can be real bitches :d :d  Although some have a strong herding instinct there's only one of mine who does have it strongly, the rest are more interested in the gundog working side!

It's like all breeds as long as you train them properly and do something that occupies their brain they are quite happy.  Also they need to be socialised well with people especially.

Not seen Tangle for a while but she was beautiful the last time I saw her!  I bred her mum and part own her dad who lives with me!

My friend puts tights on her dogs head when she has a bleedy ear (she is very prone) and it stops it flapping when she runs and it heas faster!

A good alternative if you don't have
anything in specifically is flour or icing sugar. Sounds silly but it stems any bleed in seconds.
I wouldn't recommend you used it all the time but handy in an emergency

Oooh, my other dogs would love the icing sugar :d  I'll try the flour when I get home.  Thanks for that.

Well it's still not right, think he actually may have a bit of an infection in the ear!!  So treating that now.  At the moment he is lay in the kitchen with a tight leg over his head :d :d  Took him to my mum and dad's earlier for a laugh !!!  Needless to say my dad has taken photos, poor Ickle Man.
