Topic Dog Boards / Health / boxers - is this true?
- By wolfwoman [gb] Date 18.04.06 10:59 UTC
a good friend of mine has recently become the proud owner of a 8 month old boxer.
while meeting up with a few other dog walkers the other day. someone said that of all the dog breeds. a boxers back legs go first.

is this really true?

Rubbish.

Boxers are not my breed - but I've never heard that.

Huh:confused:

I've been in Boxers 16 years plus now and all the dogs that I've owned or had the pleasure of
knowing have never had problems with back legs going.

Yes they have problems as a breed with Cancer, some heart conditions, thyroid, some
have skin complaints, allergies etc.

Used to have GSD's (English type) in the family and yes we had problems with those with back legs
when elderly.

Think those people don't know what they are talking about personally!

I've never heard of this either.  They did seem to go through a stage a few years ago where their hind movement looked awful but I would say that in the last 5 years it has definitely improved!

No, it's not true.  How funny.  Mine have had slight thyroid problems and a bought of itchy skin now and again.  My main concern for the future is heart problems, I've not even given a thought to the back legs.

Didnt you all know that the strangers in the street knew more about your dogs breed/health/temperament and how they should be trained/punished than you did, lol.
I used to get really concerned about the things people told me in the street, sometimes i would post on here and sometimes i even spoke to my vet and breeder who must have thought i was loopy. Take every thing people in the street tell you with a pinch of salt, i have my head nodding & interested face mastered now whilst i am thinking about what to cook for tea

Ive had boxers for over 20yrs...and in contact with many boxer breeders..ive never heard of a boxer going of his/her back legs..There is a odd % of boxers who may have hip dysplatia...but its a rare occasion...
tell your friend not to listen to other peoples advice and enjoy her boxer...
