Hi,
I have a 6 mth GR and posted a few months about wind problem - really is bad in the evenings, not just the odd one, this is all evening! He was on Pedigree Complete from the Breeder so I changed to James Turkey which he has been on for 2 months, but it is still no better. Am at a loss as to what to do now.
Any tips greatly appreciated.

Have you had him checked over by the vet to rule out any digestive problems?
Assuming that all is well, you could try changing him to a different flavour of food or giving him charcoal biscuits to munch on. I think you can also get charcoal to add with their food??
Yes, have had a couple of trips to the vet regarding stools and wind, which resulted in a sample being sent off to reveal Giardia which was then treated. He said it would be down to the food he has but i though James was one of the blandest I could buy. Daft question maybe, are the charcoal biscuits just the black ones I get in a big bag of mixed ones or are they special ones? Thx for your reply.

Hi
I know JWB is recommended by alot of people at one time myself included until I had a problem with one of my girls she became very fussy so I decided to change both my girls over to JWB one was fine with it but the other girl ate the food and enjoyed it but after a week or so I noticed her poo changing then it became very bloody with mucus she was bringing up bile and got a rash on her tummy obviously I took her to the vet after she saw the rash on her tummy she asked what food she was on the vet said that she had had a few dogs reacting to JWB in this way and that it isnt suitable (as can be with most foods) for everyone and not one she favours.
We stopped it right away for both of them and changed over to Nutro which they love and her health returned to normal almost immediately.
I would try a different food again such as Nutro arden grange or natures menu you can also get a supplement from dorwest for flatulence.

Hi Cocopops, Could it be that he is just eating too quickly and gulping down lots of air? If so, you could try putting a hard ball or kong in his bowl so he will have to work round it and eat more slowly. :)
Cocopops, does your JWB have Sugar beet or Beet pulp in it?? I think some JWB types do.
In some dogs this can cause a lot of wind. If I were you, I'd try to find a food which doesn't have it and see if that makes things any better.
Have a look at Arden Grange - I can't remember if it's in there or not, but it's a good food and you can look at the ingredients: www.ardengrange.com
Or try Burns - some varieties don't have it: www.burns-pet-nutrition.co.uk
Do you feed him alot of your own food?, i always find my goldie is very windy if he has had quite a lot of leftovers.
Thanks for all your replies, its a real help and lots to look into. I am not sure about the beet in JWB I will have a look on the packet. He does eat his food very quickly so will try his Kong in there. We havent given him hardly any of our food, maybe the odd bit of chicken or fish if the kids leave it but stay away from anything else as it makes him even worse!
