Topic Dog Boards / General / long lines - advice please?
- By ShaynLola Date 11.04.06 19:58 UTC
Hi All

I am going to buy a long line to assist with training recall. I've never used one before and I was hoping for recommendations as to which type/length/material is best and where to buy. All advice greatfully received :)

Cheers

J :)

petplanet do long leads, although you could probably get a lunge rope from a saddlery shop for about the same as it would cost to buy online (with delivery cost in mind). As for what length etc, i couldn't tell you.I've used my friends 5 metre synthetic one (identical to the one on the petplanet webby) which was petty good-long enough for a bit of distance, but not long enough to have me on the floor if wee doggy tanked off.

Considering that my 'wee doggy' currently weighs in around the 50kg mark and is still growing , I think I'll maybe go for the 5 metre version (although I'm sure it would be endlessly amusing for fellow dog walkers to watch her send me on my hoop ). Have no idea where I'd even find a saddlery shop round here as I live in the city and have a major aversion to all things horsey but I'll start investigating.

Thanks for the info :)

rideaway do them but charge £4.50 for delivery ! old mill in northern ireland do a padded one for £8.50 with £3.36 delivery. theres one on ebay too-a £10 for product and delivery.

Remember to get a harness if you don't already have one, it's better for the dog in case the neck gets jerked, which happens easier than you'd think :)

You'll need to anchor yourself to the ground too I reckon :D Ido was only about 20kg when he managed to pull me over while on a longline...I blame the seagulls at the other end of the field!
