My yorkie is 1 on 11th of this month. She has not had her first season yet, should I be worried? I have had 2 yorkie bitches in the past and they had both had their first season before 12 months of age.

No, nothing to worry about, I have cockers some have had their first season at 9 months, others at 16 months.  One of my girls will be a year old next month and no signs yet.

My girl was 2 weeks short of 1 year. I know people with bitches that were 14 or 15 months before their first seasons. :-)

Some of my SWD's have been 18 months before their first and then as regular as clockwork every 7 months after that.

She has finally come into season! What do others do about exercise during a season?

Lead walks at unsociable times and places where there's a minimum likelihood of meeting other dogs. :)

Yep, my girl just got 5 minutes up and down the road on a lead. With a Yorkie I would say safest to keep her in for 3 weeks - if she chases balls just throw one up the garden to give her some fresh air and exercise! :-)

If you live in an area like mine where the Dog warden does a good job and there are no loose/latchkey dogs around then I road walk mine throughout their seasons.  In other wods stick to places where dogs ahve no business being off lead.

I walk mine with her companions so even should we meet an off lead dog being walked along the street by an irresponsible owner they tend to be intimidated by the pack.

That's a good point.  I often walk with my friends castrated Newfoundland. That probably helps the other dogs pause too :)
